Job Summary The successful candidate will manage and oversee construction projects including renovations, new construction, and repairs/maintenance. You will be responsible for overall project management including: planning, assessment, procurement, financial and cost control, consultant / contract management, dispute resolution, troubleshooting, communications, public relations, negotiation, and scheduling for the design, installation, commissioning, and verification of projects. You have the ability to manage a wide range of different size projects (small to large), ability to manage multiple clients/stakeholders, and the ability to manage a large number of concurrent projects.
Key Duties And Responsibilities In this Project Manager role, you will be responsible for:
- Manage various complex construction projects, and maintenance and repair projects
- Co-ordinate and work with Town staff from concept to final completion and occupancy of the project or facility
- Prepare project charters including the scope of work
- Develop and recommend product specifications
- Prepare and co-ordinate the RFI, RFP, and tender documents and evaluate bids received
- Apply for all building permits and Site Plan applications on City of Markham property
- Manage architects, project managers, consultants, and general contractors
- Monitor project progress (schedule control), process invoices (cost control). Use Eclipse to track project progress and financial information.
- Conduct consultation with staff, senior management, members of Council, members of the public/stakeholders
- Report status to Manager and Director of Asset Management. Prepare reports to Committee and Council and make presentations.
- Issue change orders and substantial performance, manage work under the warranty period
- Ensure appropriate Commissioning
- Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with construction specifications
- Conduct deficiency and final inspections and final sign off
- Facilitate effective co-ordination and communication between end users and development professionals
- Ensure a high level of customer satisfaction through delivering projects on time and within budget
- Ensure integration with Facility Management software and adopt systems to minimize maintenance and increase life cycle
- Prepare Life cycle reserves for facility assets; Assist with preparation of yearly facility capital budget;
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or Architecture
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in facility management / construction management roles.
- A minimum of 3 years experience in Cradle-to-Grave project management approach
- Project Management Professional (PMP) designation is considered an asset
- Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) or OAA or be able to qualify within one year, a C.E.T. with equivalent experience and abilities will also be considered
- Advanced computer skills and familiarity in the relevant software applications (MS Office, Project Management software)
- Proficiency with project management tools
- Broad knowledge of asset management principles
- Possess excellent facilitation, negotiation and supervisory skills
- Able to work from and interpret building drawings, architectural plans, operational guides, and maintenance manuals
- Experience in writing and comprehending procurement documents, and technical specifications
