Specialist, Bilingual Editor

GDLS-C is looking for a bilingual editor to join their Edit and Translation team.

Position Summary

The daily duties of the bilingual editor position involves English and French editing, and French translation, of technical documentation for a prescribed style and format. The position also includes formatting and layout reviews of technical manuals prior to delivery. Language reviews are performed on a variety of outputs, including Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals (IETM) and other electronic mediums, such as PDF. The bilingual editor is required to provide accurate style and language markups within a budget and deadline and author these changes in XML-formatted technical manuals.

In addition to the core duties described above the successful candidate will be called upon to:

  • Liaise with other teams as required to support development and QA of technical documentation

  • Responsible for investigation and close out of edit/translation process or quality issues

  • Identify and/or investigate process improvement ideas

  • Support the review of change requests to determine level of impact to technical manuals and other support products

  • Train new team members and support supervision in giving direction to team members

  • Maintain the configuration and revision of the style guides, lexicons as well as other supporting documents

  • Support the review of contractual requirements and preparation of bids and proposals

The successful candidate will be provided one-on-one training. This training includes, not only style guides and style/language-specific guidance, but also content management system user training, authoring software training (XML) and Trados Studio. While prior experience in these systems is an asset, training will be provided to the successful candidate.

Required Qualifications:

  • University degree, honours or higher, in a French language degree, preferably French translation or related field

  • Minimum 3 to 5 years relevant experience

  • Excellent communication, organization and prioritization skills

  • Comfortable working independently in a fast-paced team environment

  • Willingness to learn technical skills as part of a highly skilled team

  • An openness to learn something new every day

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Working experience in English editing, French editing, copy editing, proofreading and/or related discipline

  • Working knowledge of an additional language, with preference given to Spanish and/or Arabic

  • English editing certification by an accredited organisation

  • Working knowledge of XML or other markup languages

  • Experience working within a content management system

  • Familiarity with military standards

  • Experience in a technical field, such as engineering or automotive industry
