Rotation: 7 days on, 7 days off

Shift Length: 10.5 hours

Allowance: Provided based on place of residence

Job Summary

Redpath Canada Limited is looking for operators with extensive experience at drilling, scaling, meshing and bolting rounds using jumbos equipped with twin telescopic slides. This technique was initially developed Internationally and is now widely used in many countries. The successful candidates will demonstrate superior skills, dexterity and safety awareness.

  • Primary face drilling and scaling, drilling and bolting of inclines, declines, drifts and mass excavations.
  • Identify and remedy misfires.
  • Conduct prestart checks of equipment and drill site.
  • Read and follow driving layouts and ground support instructions.
  • Ensure that the work is carried out through adherence to specifications, schedules and standards.
  • Familiar with hard rock mining techniques
  • Visually inspect, sound, scale and wash down work area, check for bootlegs and miss holes, flags lifters, adds or repairs vent tubing.
  • Assess ground conditions at the face and implement ground control according to site requirements
  • Extend grade and center line, mark face for drilling and circle bootlegs, maintain hanging wall and foot wall control in junction with geologist.
  • Capable of jackleg and/or stopper drilling as needed.
  • Determine location, spacing, depth and inclination of holes.
  • Perform minor repairs, such as changing striker bars, couplings, water tubes and hose clamps.
  • Complete daily logbooks on equipment and submit written and verbal reports to supervisor.
  • Load, prime, time, connect and test blasting circuit.
  • Maintain working area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition.
  • Must be able to comprehend written and verbal instructions as required to perform his duties in a safe and efficient manner
  • Must be able to follow proper procedure to ensure safety and to control equipment damage

Health and Safety:

  • Having the authority and responsibility to maintain a safe and efficient working environment

  • Following Redpath Canada Limited health and safety standards and reporting any unsafe acts or conditions

  • Ability to participate and complete incident / accident investigations and take corrective action to prevent injury and / or re-occurrence

  • Responsible to ensure proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment.

  • Must have knowledge of the WHMIS legislation and know how to effectively use an MSDS sheet.

  • Comply with the Mine Regulation Act and Regulations clauses that apply to your work area.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (preferred)

  • Experience on Sandvik Jumbo is essential

  • 3 years or more experience with operating Jumbo Drill in UG mining environment

  • Ontario Hard Rock Underground Common Core – Full Basic (required)

  • Required Specialty Modules: U0089 (or other provincial equivalent)

  • Demonstrated ability to read mine plans and specifications for underground mining.

  • Ability to multitask and work effectively

  • Ability to work efficiently as part of a team as well as independently

  • Must have the ability to adapt to change

  • Good communication skills
