Your Opportunity:
Calgary Remand Centre (CRC) is a maximum security provincial correctional facility dedicated to providing patient centered and trauma informed care for adult individuals. We are seeking a compassionate, skilled Assistant Head Nurse (AHN) to provide clinical leadership and operational support within Correctional Health Services. This role ensures the delivery of safe, ethical, and evidence based healthcare within a multidisciplinary team. Reporting to the Health Services Manager, this role supports day to day clinical operations, staff supervision, quality improvement, and continuity of care for an incarcerated population with diverse and complex health needs. The AHN supervises, mentors, and supports the multidisciplinary team, supporting shift coordination and workload allocation. The AHN promotes leadership competencies by demonstrating good judgement and critical thinking skills and maintains strong nursing practice in the designated scope of practice. The AHN provides direct patient care as needed. This AHN acts as a liaison between multiple disciplines including psychiatry, forensics, dentistry, as well as programs across the Recovery Alberta continuum of care. This role collaborates with Alberta Health Services and other external organizations, including Correctional Service Division, to ensure effective service coordination.
Description:
As an Assistant Head Nurse, you will be responsible for staff assignments, patient flow and acting as a role model, clinical resource and advocate for nursing staff. In addition to providing frontline nursing care, as required, you will take a leadership role in the promotion of quality patient care and the implementation of operational priorities. Your in-depth knowledge and skills, advanced judgment and clinical experience, will assist in providing solutions for complex health care issues at all levels with patients, interprofessional teams, administrators and policy makers. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of Recovery Alberta.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Additional Required Qualifications:
Baccalaureate degree in Nursing. A minimum of two years of formal or informal nursing leadership experience. A minimum of 5 years’ clinical experience in correctional health, acute care, emergency/urgent care or equivalent experience. Demonstrated ability to recognize complex problems and seek solutions. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment. Experience with introducing new initiatives and demonstrated ability to partner with managers and leaders to implement change. Knowledge of infection prevention and control, quality improvement, and patient safety principles. Demonstrated commitment to patient centered, trauma informed, and culturally safe care.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced certifications including ITLS Duty to Respond, ACLS, TNCC, and/or ACCN preferred. Leadership courses/training. Experience supporting adult learners. Connect Care experience.
