JOB SUMMARY:
The painter is responsible for assisting in the upkeep of the divisional buildings, grounds, and equipment to provide safe,
comfortable, attractive and effective facilities within the guidelines, regulations, and policies of the Louis Riel School Division.
This position supports the strategic actions of the Multi-Year Strategic Plan.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Performing all work expected of a fully qualified painter which includes, but not limited to:
- Painting and patching of interior and exterior surfaces in schools, classrooms and other facilities.
- Finishing, refinishing, and painting custom manufactured divisional furniture and fixtures.
- Mixing, matching and blending of all paint and colours.
- Installation of painting related materials such as wallcoverings, graphics, etc.
- Assist in diagnosing of painting problems and offer applicable information when requested.
- Proper use and maintenance of tools and equipment.
- Participating in routine and preventative maintenance of divisional property.
- Assisting other maintenance staff when required.
QUALIFICATIONS (EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE):
• Valid Red Seal Certificate in Painting.
- Two or more years of experience in paint and coating application for various interior and exterior surfaces, preparation of
large surfaces for painting and coating, including drywall repair, patching, mudding, taping and sanding and preparing
estimates for supplies and materials.
- Ability to operate and perform routine maintenance on related equipment and tools.
- Ability to give and follow both written and verbal instructions.
- Good math, computer, and communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and drawings and estimate materials.
- Ability to problem solve, prioritize, and organize work.
- Ability to complete all assigned work orders in a timely manner.
- Ability to work effectively independently and in teams with minimal supervision.
- Ability to respond to emergencies after hours when needed.
- Supervisory experience is an asset.
- Knowledge of WHMIS preferred
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- Satisfactory Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search.
- Clear report from the Child Abuse Registry.
- Completion of Respect In School or equivalent certification.
- Review and comply with Divisional policies and guidelines.
- Valid Manitoba Driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and satisfactory Driver’s abstract.
- Continued employment is subject to maintaining legal eligibility to work in Canada.
