Fund Development Officer, Capital Campaigns

Reports to: Director of Capital Campaigns, Fund Development

Location: Hybrid - Centrally located on Vancouver Island and able to work at the CHFVI – Nanaimo Office

Term: Full time, ongoing

Hours of work: Monday-Friday, 37.5 hours/week with occasional evening and weekend work

Salary Range: $52,631 - $65,793

Who we’re looking for:

The Fund Development Officer, Capital Campaigns is a key member of the Fund Development team, responsible for supporting capital campaign initiatives and overall fundraising activity. Working closely with the Director of Capital Campaigns, the Fund Development Officer, Capital Campaigns, is responsible for soliciting and securing mid-level gifts, event coordination, third-party fundraising, grant writing, donor recognition and stewardship, donor inquiries, and database support.

The Fund Development Officer also provides communications support for the campaign, including a bi‑monthly newsletter, targeted marketing materials, and storytelling to engage donors and the community. As an active team member, the Fund Development Officer works collaboratively with the fund development team to carry out operational and strategic plans. The role requires an understanding of fundraising strategy, excellent customer service, confidentiality, attention to detail, good judgement and critical thinking.

Responsibilities

Capital campaign support

  • Support all logistical aspects of the capital campaign, including production of marketing and communications collateral, fundraising strategy, event planning, documenting donor cultivation, and maintaining donor records.
  • Assist and support all stages of the capital campaign including donor recognition and campaign activities.

Fundraising, donor relations & stewardship

  • In consultation with the Director of Capital Campaigns, manage a pipeline of prospects and existing donors, of individuals, corporations, and foundations.
  • Organize face-to-face meetings and engagement activities.
  • Coordinate donor stewardship and recognition activities, ensuring timely delivery of acknowledgement letters, special mailings, and personal follow‑up through phone and in‑person contact.
  • Maintain accurate records in Raiser’s Edge to track actions, stewardship activities and support ongoing donor engagement.
  • Represent the campaign in the community by attending events, mixers, and engagement opportunities to build relationships and connect with new supporters.

Communications & grant writing support

  • Support campaign communications, including ownership of the bi‑monthly capital campaign newsletter (planning and writing donor and family stories) and produce targeted marketing materials such as postal walks, brochures, and other campaign collateral.
  • Prepare written materials to support campaign events, including speaking notes, presentations, and other communications as needed.
  • Research, identify, and cultivate potential community grant funding sources, prepare and submit applications in required formats, and maintain relationships with foundations and grantors.
  • Maintain accurate records in Raiser’s Edge to track grant applications, renewals, reporting requirements, and status updates throughout all stages of the grant cycle.

Event coordination

  • Plan, coordinate, and support events that advance the capital campaign and Foundation’s fundraising goals. This includes third‑party events and Foundation‑driven engagement, solicitation, and stewardship events. Responsibilities may include event preparation, set‑up and tear‑down, compiling invitation lists, preparing briefing packages, obtaining donor awards or plaques, securing venues and catering, and executing post‑event follow‑up.
  • Developand execute creative fundraising events that generate support and momentum for the capital campaign.

Required skills & experience

  • Ability to manage multiple logistical aspects of a capital campaign, including strategy execution, coordination, and documentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of capital campaigns, donor cultivation, solicitation strategies, and donor recognition practices.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for timely, personalized donor communications and follow-up, both written and verbal.
  • Experience planning and executing various types of events.
  • A collaborative team player with a high level of organizational ability, attention to detail, and ability to manage tight timelines.
  • Self-starter and works well independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, Canva, Adobe, and Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Minimum two years’ fundraising experience and a proven track record in supporting and raising funds for a non-profit or similar experience.

Qualifications & education

  • Diploma in Marketing, Communications, Fundraising, or equivalent experience.
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation or in progress an asset.
  • Involvement in the Association of Donor Relations Professionals (ADRP), Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) or Canadian Association of Gift Planners (CAGP) or a similar professional organization an asset.

Working Conditions

  • 7.5 hr workday / 37.5 hr work week, hybrid - remote and the Nanaimo office.
  • Ideal candidate would be centrally located on Vancouver Island, preferably in Nanaimo.
  • Evening and weekend work required at times for special events and presentations.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s licence and personal vehicle required
