Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

In Adult Day Programs, the Recreationist is responsible for the development and implementation of appropriate social recreation based programming for diverse groups of senior clients. Recreationist are expected to lead programs that engage clients in meaningful social and wellness activities based on their needs/preferences as identified on the Client Service Plan documents.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

  • College Diploma in Recreation required

  • Valid First Aid Certification required

  • Safe Food Handling Training preferred

  • Certification in the SAM S.T.E.P.S model of exercise preferred

  • Completed courses in DementAbility, GPA or geriatrics preferred

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of 6 months current relevant experience in the recreation field working in a community setting.

  • Knowledge of client safety issues and demonstrated capacity to apply client safety practices

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated leadership, collaboration and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to work as part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team in a respectful manner
  • Enthusiasm, flexibility and ability to cope with change
  • Demonstrated knowledge and ability to use relevant computer applications (e.g. CRMS, Microsoft Suite applications, online meeting & collaboration applications and internet applications)

SPECIAL CONDITIONS

  • In accordance with the Corporate Criminal Record Check Policy, the position requires the incumbent to undergo a Criminal Records Check and submit a Canadian Police Clearance Certificate including a vulnerable sector search

  • Must be physically and mentally capable of performing the duties of the position, have an excellent rapport with people and demonstrated working ability with Senior Citizens

  • Must be able to work at various Adult Day Program locations based on client need/management discretion

  • Must have a good attendance record

  • For positions assigned to an identified French Language Services (FLS) location, must be fluent in French (both Written and Verbal)

Shift Information

Currently scheduled 0 hours (casual position) per week, days shifts, may be required to work days, evenings and nights including weekends. Must be willing and able to work up to 24 hrs per week and declare availability of 32hrs per week.

Please note this position will primarily support the South Adult Day Program locations in Port Colborne, Fort Erie, Welland and Niagara Falls. The incumbent may be required to work in any of the Adult Day Program locations including St. Catharines, West Niagara (Grimsby) and Niagara-on-the-lake .
