DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
As an integral member of the Nephrology Program, the Dialysis Aide is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting of hemodialysis machine, reverse osmosis machines; cleaning and disinfecting the patient environment; preparing and dismantling dialysis machines and disposing of equipment; maintaining and restocking supply bins; transporting specimens, and blood products; providing patient transportation to other units; assisting the Nursing team to hold access sites; assisting in moving of equipment; assisting with quality assurance testing of equipment, priming machines; disinfecting machines in isolation and procedure rooms; transporting and setting up equipment at off unit locations; and responsible for inventory of all off unit connectors.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Grade 12 education

  • Current Dialysis attendant/assistant certificate from a recognized college or equivalent or experience working as a Dialysis Aide

  • Basic Computer skills

  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills are important for interaction with patients and staff

  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills are required to multi-task and prioritize workload

  • Must be able to prepare and dismantle hemodialysis machines/equipment;

  • Must be able to transport hemodialysis machines/equipment inter and intra-departmentally;

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize workload while functioning independently with minimum supervision;

  • Must be able to work productively and independently in a demanding setting with distractions and interruptions at times;

  • Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Demonstrated problem-solving and organizational skills;

  • Maintains patient confidentiality and privacy

  • Proven ability to act appropriately and effectively in an emergency situation;

  • Proven ability to perform sequential tasks requiring manual dexterity, speed and hand-eye coordination;

  • Must have satisfactory performance record;

  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Lakeridge Health's comprehensive safety programs and practices including staff safety, patient safety, environmental safety and participates in regular in-service education in this area;

  • Demonstrated commitment to our core values of Inclusion, Compassion, Innovation, Teamwork and Joy;

  • Must be willing to travel from site to site and assume on-call rotation;
