About the role

Position Information:

The Clinical Educator and Coach – plays a vital role in advancing professional nursing practice through the development, delivery, and evaluation of orientation and education programs for staff and students. This position supports excellence in patient care, staff engagement, and retention by fostering a culture of continuous learning, evidence-based practice, and professional growth.

Key Responsibilities:
The Clinical Educator and Coach provides leadership in the ongoing evaluation and revision of hospital orientation programs to ensure they effectively meet the needs of new staff, students, and teams. They are instrumental in identifying, planning, and assessing the learning requirements of newly hired staff, as well as supporting nursing students and new graduates as they transition into practice. By collaborating with affiliated colleges, universities, and external partners, the Clinical Educator and Coach enhances clinical training opportunities and contributes to the development of the hospital’s future workforce.

In this role, the Clinical Educator mentors staff and students, acting as a resource in problem-solving and sharing professional nursing knowledge to support skill development and clinical confidence. They provide hands-on expertise to mentors, preceptors and Clinical Scholars while facilitating mandatory education sessions, in-services, and hospital equipment training.

The educator also integrates evidence-based practice into nursing skills and techniques, using a variety of instructional methods and resources designed to meet the needs of adult learners in a healthcare environment.

The Clinical Educator works closely with other clinical educators, Directors of Patient Care, and interdisciplinary teams to guide and implement nursing practice changes. They actively contribute to organizational education initiatives such as skills training days, annual education fairs, and mock code events provided by the staff development team.

They also provide instruction on Cerner applications, ensuring staff are aligned with hospital policies and procedures, and support ongoing improvements in practice through chart audits and follow-up education.

Beyond education, the Clinical Educator and Coach assists with policy, protocol, and procedure development, ensuring updates are based on legislative changes and best practice guidelines. They also play a supportive role in emergency preparedness by working with the Emergency Preparedness Lead to enhance the hospital’s readiness initiatives.

The educator and coach supports Woodstock Hospital’s professional practice initiatives, champions clinical changes that promote patient safety, and contributes to the development of departmental goals and objectives in alignment with the hospital’s Strategic Plan

Qualifications Required:

Working towards/currently possesses a Bachelor of Science in Nursing or Masters in Nursing degree, or equivalent related experience
Minimum of 10 years of work-related experience in Nursing
Currently registered with the Ontario College of Nurses in good standing.
Certification in Adult Education an asset
Minimum of 2 years practical experience in the field of adult education.
Demonstrated experience and superior knowledge of project management, development, evaluation and creative learning strategies.
Demonstrated leadership in facilitating committees/educational events.
Change management knowledge (including Adult Learning Theory) and skills.
Ability to successfully coordinate multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
Strong written and computer skills – with proficiency/working knowledge of Microsoft M365.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Excellent interpersonal skills with self-awareness of personal contributions in maintaining a positive team environment while utilizing advanced communication skills
Knowledge and expertise in CERNER applications, processes, supporting change within the electronic health record
Satisfactory performance appraisal and attendance records in present position.
Self-direction and flexibility essential.
