##Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Executive Director, Indigenous Initiatives and Applied Research the Indigenous Research and Development Coordinator provides coordination and administrative support for applied research and development projects involving Indigenous Peoples, communities, and organizations. Working under the direction and guidance of the Executive Director, this role leads the development and implementation of the Indigenous Research Circle by establishing best practices for Indigenous-led and community-informed research, collaborating with the Research Ethics Board to strengthen culturally grounded ethical review processes, supporting researchers in understanding Indigenous research protocols and community expectations, and strengthening partnerships with Indigenous communities and the Applied Research and Innovation Office (ARIO).

The incumbent will be expected to collaborate with the Manager, Research Administration, Senior Manager, Centre for Natural Products, Senior Manager, Centre for Healthy Communities, researchers, students, and community or industry partners to identify opportunities where a Two-Eyed Seeing approach would strengthen research practice, support researchers in building respectful and ethical relationships with Indigenous communities, and promote culturally grounded, community informed approaches across projects.

##Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the ongoing development of the Indigenous Research Circle

  • Create and maintain best practices, guidelines, and tools for Indigenous-led and community-informed research.

  • Contribute to policies, procedures, and grant writing that reflect Indigenous knowledge systems.

  • Coordinate meetings, track progress, and apply project-management practices to ensure milestones are met.

  • Provide daily guidance to ARIO staff to support ethical, rigorous, and culturally grounded research practices.

  • Build and maintain respectful and sustained relationships with Indigenous communities and partners to support community-driven and approved research initiatives

  • Ensure community priorities and perspectives are reflected in ARIO research activities and build an understanding within ARIO management team about expectations for Indigenous-related research

  • Collaborate with the Research Ethics Board to strengthen culturally grounded and community-informed ethical review process

  • Support researchers in understanding and applying ethical Indigenous research practices to their project and data governance

  • Assist in the development of reports, presentations, and resources that inform on the integration of Indigenous research practices and the ethical conduct of Indigenous research at Loyalist College

  • Work collaboratively with ARIO leadership to advance culturally responsive research

  • Contribute to internal committees and working groups to advance ethical Indigenous research

  • Support promotional activities such as website content management, social media campaigns, events including online events across a number of platforms, annual report, and the coordination of these activities with applied research partners

##Qualifications

  • A minimum of a 4-year degree or equivalent in Indigenous Studies, Public Administration, Social or Health Sciences, Business Administration, Community Development, Research/Project Management, or a related field
  • Completion of Ownership, Control, Access, and Possession (OCAP) Training is required.
  • Completion of TCPS 2 Core 2022 Training is required
  • At least one year of experience in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment, requiring a high level of attention to detail and the ability to consistently deliver high-quality results across various projects and initiatives
  • A minimum of one year of experience with research methodology and research implementation
  • Proficiency in using a range of software for designing, inputting, tracking, and maintaining information related to project management, research, and ethical research components is an asset
  • Strong time management skills with the ability to effectively multitask and prioritize activities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, along with superior organizational, interpersonal, and analytical abilities
  • Proven ability to work both independently and as part of a team, under pressure, while managing multiple tasks and deadlines
  • The incumbent identifies as being of Indigenous heritage including First Nations, Metis or Inuit (as a bona fide occupational requirement, under Section 24(1) of the Ontario Human Rights Code and may be requested to provide information to verify Indigenous identity if invited to an interview
