Position Information**:**

Duties and Responsibilities:

Durham College is seeking a skilled professional with exceptional communication and demonstrated client service experience to fill a temporary vacancy on the Human Resources team. The Human Resources generalist is responsible for providing a full range of HR support to an assigned client group within the college. This role combines both a consultative and administrative focus. The incumbent provides guidance on HR matters to managers, faculty, and staff, while also managing key administrative processes including employment documentation, pension and benefits administration, and recruitment support. The role also involves frequent collaboration with HR colleagues to ensure consistent and effective service delivery.

This role will provide guidance and procedural advice on recruitment and selection ensuring compliance with established processes; coordinate and process onboarding activities, including the accurate and timely completion of benefits and pension documentation; work closely with managers to address employee and labour relations matters, including conflict resolution and performance management; interpret and provide guidance on collective agreements. The incumbent will advise management in the development of job descriptions (Position Description Forms and Job Fact Sheets), participate in the job evaluation process by reviewing and assessing job documentation as part of a committee, and communicate job evaluation outcomes.

The incumbent will prepare and process a large volume of employment contracts, offer letters, and memos, ensuring timeliness, accuracy, and adherence to policy, collective agreements, and legislation. This role will frequently utilize HR systems, including HRIS (Banner), Applicant Tracking System (Cornerstone on Demand), and benefits and pension platforms to manage and retrieve employee data. Occasionally this role will deliver information sessions on HR topics such as recruitment and selection, collective agreements and job evaluation.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a three-year diploma or degree in Human Resources or a related field is required; a CHRP designation is considered an asset.
  • A minimum of three years of related work experience in an HR role, experience working in a unionized environment is an asset.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain respectful working relationships across all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, sound judgment, and critical thinking skills.
  • Proven ability to manage a high volume of work while maintaining accuracy, attention to detail, and a strong client service focus.
  • Results-oriented with the ability to work productively within a fast-paced environment with multiple and/or conflicting demands and deadlines.
  • Demonstrated experience in employee relations, including conflict resolution.
  • Working knowledge of collective agreements and applicable legislation, including the Ontario Human Rights Code, Employment Standards Act (ESA), and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
  • Experience working with HR systems (e.g., Banner HRIS) is considered an asset.
  • High degree of proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe.
