##Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Manager, Centre for Natural Products, the Senior Researcher is responsible for research activities across multiple applied projects within the Centre for Natural Products (CNP). The Senior Researcher contributes to securing grant funds for the CNP and can be assigned as the Principal Investigator for applicable grants. The incumbent collaborates with industrial partners in establishing the scope of an applied research project and establishes project plans, binding research agreements and Statements of Work, ensures tasks are completed on schedule and on budget, and communicates proactively with managers, CNP personnel, and clients to resolve technical challenges. The incumbent works directly with the CNP Senior Manager, laboratory coordinator, faculty, Research Associates, technologists and students to support applied research project delivery in the CNP.

##Duties and Responsibilities

  • Compose grant applications in collaboration with the CNP team and where appropriate, assigned as the Principal Investigator for specific grant funds

  • Consult with the Senior Manager, CNP, to establish the Statement of Work (SOW), identify project deliverables, research methods, variables and other test parameters

  • Responsible for the development of a project plan and assisting the Senior Manager, CNP with allocating and scheduling resources

  • Ensure assigned research project deliveries are on schedule, on budget, and aligned with established goals

  • Responsible for project execution, including client relationship management and reviewing research reports

  • Conducts and oversees literature review, experimental design, and research method selection and analysis of collected data

  • Responsible for report preparation, review, and project evaluation

  • Demonstrates a high standard for scientific credibility and rigor in applied research projects and approach to solutions

  • Develop and maintain documentation in accordance with research standards and regulatory expectations

  • Other duties as assigned

##Qualifications

  • 4 year post-secondary Bachelor’s degree in Bioscience discipline, preferably in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Microbiology or equivalent field of study
  • Nine (9) years professional experience applying scientific research knowledge in an industry setting and influencing product creation
  • Experience with molecular biological techniques would be an asset
  • Experience with GMP, GPP, or other regulated work environment would be an asset
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in extraction and analytical instrumentation, method validation, formulation and product development, with focus on natural products and cannabis
  • Experience with process documentation and reporting
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and maintaining a safe work environment in a laboratory setting and worker responsibilities under WHMIS
  • Knowledge of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, the Cannabis Act and related regulations and guidelines would be an asset
  • Knowledge of n-prescription Health Products Directorate is an asset
  • Commitment to maintain a high level of professional expertise by staying current with scientific and industry best practices.
  • Understanding of security protocols to keep research projects safe and confidential
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, dealing with both internal and external clients and liaising with industry to communicate and understand business needs
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work independently
