Location: Edmonton, AB Job Type: Full-Time Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Flexibility required; occasional weekends/holidays) Reports to: Hospitality Manager
About the Role
The Kitchen Supervisor is responsible for supervision of food services cooks and dietary aides. This position ensures that items are prepared according to good manufacturing processes maintaining food safety at all times. As a team member, the incumbent is responsible for ongoing liaison with clients, team members, and significant others. The Kitchen Supervisor will ensure that service delivery is carried out in accordance with the Excel’s Philosophy and Policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee day-to-day kitchen, janitorial, and laundry operations
- Ensure compliance with Alberta Health Standards Food Retail and Food Services Code and Serving Safer Food Guide at all times.
- Ensuring that the department adheres to provincial, legislative, and Public Health guidelines (e.g.: infection control procedures).
- Implementing all processes and teaching staff as required such as updated policies, procedures, directives, public health orders, etc.
- Liaising with immediate supervisor, to inform, consult, and problem solve regarding any serious problems/concerns encountered in providing service.
- Equipment performance monitoring and able to demonstrate use of new equipment.
- Inventory management and have a keen eye on budgeting and maintaining food cost at par level.
- Ability to coach and mentor other staff.
- Ensuring food temperatures are checked and recorded on established forms.
- Ensuring the areas surrounding the kitchen are clean and maintained according to Public Health standards.
- Taking a proactive role in problem solving processes.
- Ensuring dietary needs for clients are being met.
- Coaching, providing performance management, and performance appraisals to staff in collaboration with the Director of Care.
- Developing menus and ensuring clients follow diet plans.
- Participating in the recruitment of Food Services staff.
- Ensuring that all licenses and permits are posted.
- Participating in planning and delivery of special facility events.
- Developing and maintaining positive public relations and representing the Excel Society in a professional manner at all times.
- Performing emergency on-call duties.
- Performing other related duties as required.
What You’ll Need
- Graduation from a recognized Culinary Arts Program, with completion of a Journeyman’s certificate in professional cooking, and Interprovincial Red Seal.
- 3+ years of supervisory experience in hospitality, health care, or a related field
- Valid certifications: First Aid & CPR, WHMIS, Infection Prevention & Control
- Strong Knowledge and experience working with clients who have mental and or physical disabilities, and or addictions.
- Good leadership qualities and experience with developing and leading a culinary team.
- Skilled in Microsoft Office and workforce scheduling tools (UKG or similar)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organization skills.
- Satisfactory criminal record check.
Working Conditions
- Healthcare & kitchen environments (exposure to noise, heat/cold)
- Lifting up to 25 lbs, walking, bending, squatting required
- Travel between sites is required
- Evening/weekend availability based on operational needs
