We are seeking an experienced IT Network Specialist to join our team and take responsibility for the implementation and maintenance of servers, firewalls, switches, and storage systems for our new GMP facility.

The ideal candidate will ensure that our network infrastructure is scalable, secure, and aligned with industry standards while supporting our organizational goals. This hands-on position includes responsibilities such as firewall management, server installations, cable patching, and monitoring VMware-based cloud infrastructure, along with other network operations tasks. Additionally, the successful candidate will manage the day-to-day IT operations for the GMP facility, supporting the success of our teams by ensuring the smooth operation and efficiency of lab infrastructure.

Network Infrastructure SME Key Responsibilities, include but are not limited to:

  • Act as the primary Subject Matter Expert for network infrastructure in the GMP facility, ensuring all systems are designed, implemented, and maintained to meet both business needs and industry standards.

Server, Firewall, And Network Maintenance

  • Implement and maintain servers, firewalls, switches, and storage systems, ensuring optimal functionality, performance, and security.

Lab IT Equipment Management

  • Manage and maintain all Lab IT equipment within the GMP facility, including computers, servers, software, licenses, networks, and peripherals. Ensure all systems are operational and well-maintained to support day-to-day operations.

Cloud Infrastructure Monitoring

  • Monitor and manage VMware-based cloud infrastructure (vSphere), ensuring the performance, reliability, and security of virtualized environments.

Network Performance & Security

  • Oversee network performance, security, and reliability, making improvements as necessary. Ensure firewalls, routing, and switching configurations meet organizational security standards.

Operational Efficiency & Support

  • Support the smooth operation of the GMP facility’s IT systems, ensuring efficient lab infrastructure operation. Provide direct technical support to internal teams, troubleshooting and resolving network and IT-related issues in a timely manner.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain detailed and accurate documentation of network configurations, processes, and security protocols. Ensure compliance with industry standards and organizational policies.

Qualifications - (Education, Certification, Degree, Skills, Knowledge, Etc.) Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science or related field is required

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT field is required.
  • Proven experience in network infrastructure management, including server, firewall, switch, and storage maintenance is required.
  • Experience with VMware-based cloud infrastructure (vSphere, NSX, vCloud) is required.
  • Hands-on experience managing IT systems within a regulated environment (such as GMP or similar).
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CCNP, VMware Certified Professional) is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Computer System Validation (CSV) principles and compliance requirements (e.g., GxP, 21 CFR Part 11) is an asset.
  • Experience supporting validated systems, ensuring compliance with audit and documentation standards is an asset.

Working Conditions

  • Required travel between Edmonton API sites.
  • This position requires you to be on site.
