Who you are

  • We value curiosity and eagerness to learn, so if you're passionate about data engineering, we'd love to hear from you
  • Someone who has 0-2 years of professional experience working with data, or relevant internship/co-op experience, as well as:
  • Basic proficiency in Python and SQL
  • Familiarity with at least one AWS service (S3, Glue, Lambda, or Redshift)
  • Understanding of relational databases and data modelling concepts
  • Exposure to version control systems (Git)
  • Basic understanding of data pipeline concepts (ETL/ELT)
  • Ability to write basic scripts (Python or Bash)
  • Nice to have: Exposure to Apache Spark, Airflow, or Terraform
  • Nice to have: AWS Certified Cloud Practitioner or working towards AWS Certified Data Engineer - Associate
  • Nice to have: Familiarity with AI-powered development tools (GitHub Copilot, Claude, Cursor, etc.) to improve coding productivity or troubleshooting
  • Nice to have: Experience with financial data or understanding of fintech concepts
  • Someone who is curious, eager to learn, and passionate about building a career in data engineering
  • A strong communicator who asks thoughtful questions and seeks feedback
  • Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment

What the job involves

  • We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Data Engineer to join our Data Platform team for a remote role based in Canada
  • The successful candidate will support the development and maintenance of data pipelines, assist with data integration tasks, and help ensure data quality across our fintech platform
  • This role provides an excellent opportunity to learn from experienced data engineers while working with modern cloud technologies and contributing to real-world data solutions
  • Reporting to the Data Platform Development Manager, you will be part of a team that maintains and expands KOHO's data engineering platform
  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of batch data pipelines using AWS Glue, Lambda, and Python
  • Writing and optimizing SQL queries for data transformation in Amazon Redshift
  • Supporting data quality checks and monitoring data pipeline health
  • Collaborating with Data Analysts and Data Scientists to understand data requirements
  • Documenting data pipelines, workflows, and technical processes
  • Learning and implementing best practices for code quality and data engineering standards
  • Participating in code reviews and team knowledge-sharing sessions
  • Troubleshooting data issues and assisting with incident resolution under guidance
