A rewarding and challenging position
As Legal Counsel, you will join the Canada (Commercial) Legal group, and be part of CGI’s wider global Legal, Security and Privacy team. This role supports CGI’s business primarily in Ontario and in support of our clients in the financial services and insurance sectors, but also across Canada in other industry sectors, including public sector, utilities, and oil & gas.
Your future duties and responsibilities
Your experience with commercial law, contract negotiation and technology matters will make you a valued legal partner and you will be engaged in the following work:
- Drafting, reviewing, negotiating and providing timely advice in respect of a wide range of commercial agreements, with a particular focus on information-technology related agreements including SaaS Agreement, Partnership Agreements and Master Services Agreements.
- Assisting with procurement matters involving third party software and solutions, telecommunications services and private and public cloud solutions.
- Reviewing RFPs from public sector clients and assisting stakeholders in completing appropriate contract and legal structures for such bids.
- Advising stakeholders on CGI’s policies, procedures and frameworks.
- Managing and resolving contractual disputes.
- Collaborating with other legal team members in the USA and India.
Required Qualifications To Be Successful In This Role
- Law degree from a recognized law school and a member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience as a lawyer in a law firm and/or within an in-house legal department, specializing in commercial law and contracting matters; regulated financial institution exposure is an asset.
- Experience reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial contracts; information technology related contracts is an asset.
- Strong analytical, negotiating and drafting skills.
- Effective prioritization and management of multiple legal matters, both advisory and transactional, on an independent basis.
- Good and practical business and legal judgment, and ability to balance business needs and risk.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work in a collaborative, fast-paced and dynamic environment.
CGI is providing a reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role. The determination of this range includes factors such as skill set level, geographic market, experience and training, and licenses and certifications. Compensation decisions depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $115,000–$165,000. This role is an existing vacancy.
