Rainy River Mine Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.
Applicants who reside in Northwestern Ontario and have experience working in a cross-cultural environment, coupled with knowledge of the unique challenges and opportunities presented to those living in the Northwest Ontario, are assets. About The Role
**Position:**Mill Operations General Supervisor
**Schedule:**14/14 - 12 hour days
**Position Reports To:**Mill Superintendent
Position Overview
The Mill General Supervisor provides operational leadership within the milling department and acts as the link between the Mill Superintendent and the Mill Supervisors. The role is responsible for translating operational strategy into execution on the plant floor while ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient mill operations.
The General Supervisor oversees the daily performance of the milling circuit, including crushing, SAG and ball milling, classification, leaching, and CIL gold recovery. The position supports operational planning, mentors Mill Supervisors and strengthens the technical capabilities of the mill operations team.
This role requires strong hands-on mineral processing experience, particularly in large gold processing plants operating at high throughput, and the ability to guide operational decisions that support production, recovery, safety, and cost performance.
Key Responsibilities:
Operational Leadership:

Provide leadership and direction to Mill Supervisors to ensure safe and efficient operation of the processing plant.

Oversee day-to-day operation of the milling circuit, including SAG milling, ball milling, classification, leach, CIL, and cyanide detoxification processes.

Support achievement of plant production targets, recovery, and utilization through effective operational planning and execution.
-
Identify operational issues and work with supervisors and technical teams to implement practical solutions.
-
Ensure operating practices are aligned with plant design, metallurgical objectives, and reliability requirements.
Communication and Collaboration:
-
Foster effective communication and collaboration between the Mill Supervisors and the Mill Superintendent, ensuring that information flows smoothly up and down the organizational hierarchy.

Coordinate with the Mill Superintendent to align the milling operations with the overall objectives of the mine.
-
Participate in cross-departmental meetings to ensure milling operations are integrated with the broader mine operations.
Coaching and Team Development:
-
Coach and mentor Mill Supervisors to strengthen leadership, operational discipline, and decision making.
-
Support development of the operations team by improving understanding of milling processes, circuit performance, and operating strategies.
-
Promote knowledge sharing between operations, metallurgy, and maintenance to elevate overall plant capability.

Support training programs and competency development for mill operators and supervisors.
Communication and Coordination:
-
Maintain strong communication between operations, metallurgy, maintenance, and other site departments.
-
Provide operational feedback and recommendations to the Mill Superintendent regarding plant performance and improvement opportunities.

Participate in daily, weekly, and monthly production planning discussions to align mill operations with mine plans.
Safety and Compliance:
-
Promote a strong safety culture within the milling department.
-
Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with site safety standards, environmental requirements, and operating procedures.

Support incident investigations and implementation of corrective actions.
Performance Monitoring and Continuous Improvement:
-
Monitor key operating metrics including throughput, recovery, utilization, and downtime.
-
Identify opportunities to improve mill stability, efficiency, and cost performance.
-
Support continuous improvement initiatives within the milling operation.
-
Work closely with the metallurgy team to optimize circuit performance.
Qualifications:
-
Grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent.
-
Valid Canadian G or equivalent Driver’s License
-
Minimum 10 years of experience in mineral processing operations, preferably in gold processing plants.

Extensive operational experience with SAG milling, ball milling, classification circuits, leaching, and CIL gold recovery processes.
-
Experience working in large-scale milling operations (approximately 20,000 t/d or higher).
-
Proven experience supervising or leading operational teams in a processing plant environment.

Strong understanding of plant performance drivers, including throughput, recovery, grinding efficiency, and process stability.
-
Demonstrated ability to coach supervisors and develop operational capability within a team.
-
Strong problem-solving skills and practical operational decision-making.
-
Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
-
Commitment to safety, operational discipline, and continuous improvement.
The anticipated salary for this position will be between $145,000 to 165,000.
