The Manager, Group Benefits Sales & Consulting reporting to the Head of Group Benefits is based out of the LeMarchand Mansion in downtown Edmonton. As an integral member of the First Canadian Group Benefits division, the Manager, Group Sales & Consulting will be responsible for developing and mentoring a team of group benefits sales and consulting professionals and their supporting account management and technical team. They will also be responsible for establishing and implementing frameworks to guide business development initiatives, manage client acquisition initiatives and strengthen market presence to ensure sustainable growth of the division. The Manager, Group Sales & Consulting will also be involved in setting the strategic direction of the Group Benefits division with the rest of the management team.
Essential Responsibilities:
Client Consulting & Relationship Management
- Direct and guide consulting strategies for group benefits plan design, cost containment, risk management, and compliance, ensuring recommendations align with both client needs and First Canadian’s strategic priorities.
- Establish standards for reporting, presentations, renewal strategies, and proposal delivery while equipping the consulting team to execute effectively.
- Coordinate cross-functional collaboration with First Canadian’s TPA, disability, actuarial, and management teams to deliver comprehensive, integrated solutions that strengthen client relationships.
- Advise clients on industry trends, regulatory developments, and innovative market solutions; ensure the consulting team is prepared to communicate these insights consistently.
- Establish service-level expectations and monitor client satisfaction, retention metrics, and long-term relationship growth across the Group Benefits portfolio.
- Support client management team and attend client meetings as required.
- Facilitate transition of clients from First Canadian’s TPA to internal administration.
Sales & Business Development
- Oversee business development initiatives, including pipeline management, market positioning, and client acquisition strategies, ensuring consistent achievement of sales and revenue targets. Build strong relationships with prospective clients, brokers, and partners to expand First Canadian’s presence in the market.
- Collaborate with the management and senior leadership teams on distribution strategies, business development initiatives, and market positioning.
- Monitor and analyze sales performance metrics to evaluate effectiveness, adjust strategies, and drive accountability across the team.
- Guide and mentor sales and consulting teams in developing proposals, negotiating terms, and strengthening client value propositions.
- Ensure sales processes and practices comply with regulatory requirements, ethical standards, and organizational policies.
Leadership & Team Management
- Grow a national consulting, sales and account management team that aligns with the size and scale of First Canadian’s Group Benefits business and growth ambitions.
- Lead, and mentor a team aligned with the size and scale of First Canadian’s Group Benefits business.
- Foster a high-performance culture that emphasizes collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
- Support training, coaching, and professional development of team members.
- Collaborate with other managers to design and implement operational processes, policies, and client service standards.
Strategic & Operational Excellence
- Contribute to First Canadian’s strategic direction in group benefits consulting and distribution.
- Partner with actuarial, underwriting, and operations teams to ensure seamless delivery of benefits solutions.
- Monitor and analyze industry developments, ensuring First Canadian remains competitive and innovative.
- Establish policies and procedures commensurate with the size and scope of First Canadian’s Group Benefits business.
- Implement process improvements, digital tools, and service enhancements to optimize efficiency and client experience.
- Solicit feedback from consulting team, clients and provide recommendations to operations team about optimizing features of our proprietary group benefits administration software system.

Qualifications:
- 7+ years of progressive experience in group benefits, insurance, consulting, or financial services.
- LLQP licence(s) is required. Ongoing maintenance of the LLQP licence(s) will be required for the role.
- CEBS designation considered an asset.
- Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, human resources, or a related field is considered an asset.
- Proven success in sales, client relationship management, and/or consulting roles.
- Strong knowledge of group benefits products, plan funding models, and regulatory requirements in Canada.
- Residing within the local Edmonton area the role requires full-time in-office presence.
- Can require frequent out of town and overnight travel as needed for client meetings.
- Intermediate skill with Microsoft Office (Word/Excel) is required.
- Fluent in English with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is required.
- Fluent in French with proven competencies in verbal and written communication is considered an asset.
- Proven ability in people management and change management to drive a high performing culture is required.
- Successful completion of a credit check, criminal background check, education verification, license and certification verification, and employment reference checks is required before employment.
