About the role

South Country Co-op is hiring a Facility Assistant at our Agro Centre, in Lomond, AB.

Reporting to the Agribusiness Manager, the Facility Assistant is responsible for delivering world-class customer service and developing diagnostic agronomy and inter-personal skills, while gaining insight into the sales, operational and administrative functions of the company.

Duties include loading products, finding items for customers, receiving, and unloading inventory in the warehouse, answering telephones, practicing good housekeeping standards, and making deliveries. The Facility Assistant will also be responsible for the safe operation of vehicle and its features while delivering chemical and seed, Anhydrous Ammonia (NH3) and other Agro products to customers, general maintenance on vehicles/trucks, filling out daily logs, completing pre-trip inspections, and reporting any discrepancies directly to the Agribusiness Manger. The Facility Assistant is an entry-level role and opens the door to future opportunities with the Co-op system.

Qualifications : Candidates must possess a valid minimum Class 3 license with a clean driving abstract. Candidates must possess a minimum of 1 year’s driving experience (driving Class 3) and a minimum of 2-3 years experience transporting dangerous goods. Ability to obtain TDG and WHMIS are required. Must be able to work well unsupervised. Candidates should possess knowledge of Agriculture products. Preference will be given to candidates who are working towards a diploma or degree in Agricultural programs.

  • Ability to complete and successfully pass a pre-employment alcohol and substance test.
  • Ability to complete and successfully pass a pre-employment Driver Evaluation performed by a third-party company appointed by South Country Co-op Limited.
  • Clean drivers abstract of Class 3 or higher
  • Physical ability to perform warehouse and yard functions, including the ability to lift and carry more than 55 lbs. on a regular (daily) basis
  • Required ability to move hazardous materials into and around non-industrial areas, such as delivering NH3, Chemical, Seed and Agro products to a residence, farm etc.
  • Agronomy competence attained through experience in the Agriculture business is preferred
  • Forklift and skid steer experience is an asset
  • Strong commitment to safety and exceptional customer service

  • Ability to read maps and use of GPS with a good sense of direction
  • Ability to adapt to new technology
  • High level of integrity and work ethic
  • Ability to deal with people sensitively, tactfully, diplomatically, and professionally at all times

Availability: Days, Evenings, and weekends (during busy season)
