The City of Edmonton is seeking a talented Communications Coordinator to join our Urban Planning and Economy team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to vital city projects by coordinating integrated marketing and communications services, helping to shape how we connect with citizens and stakeholders.
The Communications Coordinator works closely with the Communications and Engagement team to provide essential marketing and communications services for corporate, departmental, and branch projects. This role is responsible for implementing and coordinating various elements of marketing and communications plans, as well as assisting in their development. You will be involved in creating a wide range of communication materials, supporting media relations, drafting key messages, managing social media content, and assisting with external communications events and activities. This position also involves liaising and supporting outreach, education, and engagement efforts.
What will you do?
- Develop and execute marketing communications plans, including collateral, campaign materials, advertising, promotional campaigns, videos, and publications
- Coordinate and facilitate messaging for media, issues, internal, and external communications
- Provide research, liaison, and support for marketing and communications planning
- Liaise with suppliers and stakeholders
- Draft and develop copy for news releases, public service announcements, background documents, collateral materials, newsletters, advertising, web and digital content, key messages, and speaking notes
- Coordinate revisions and approvals for copy and messaging materials
- Develop and execute event plans, collateral, and educational material, with a focus on digital outreach sessions
- Coordinate event logistics and community initiatives
- Lead and support volunteers or other event personnel
- Provide research, liaison, and support for event planning, including data collection and evaluation of events
- Develop and write social media posts and execute social media activities
- Develop, write, and coordinate content for digital platforms and tools
- Develop copy for web content and coordinate web approvals
Qualifications:
- Graduation from a two-year college, accredited post-secondary institute, or technical institute program with coursework related to marketing, journalism, communications, or public relations
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a public relations, public affairs, or public information position
Assets:
- Experience balancing differing perspectives while ensuring high-quality, on-time, and on-budget production of materials
- Familiarity with City of Edmonton administrative directives and guidelines related to communications technology and web services
Skills required for success:
- Proven ability to deliver quality marketing communication products and advice on time
- Experience in delivering marketing communications materials
- Working knowledge of communications, marketing, advertising, media, social media, design coordination, event planning, and print production
- Strong written and verbal communications skills
- Ability to establish effective working relationships with staff at all levels and external client groups
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple projects and competing deadlines
- Ability to gather technical information from clients and translate it into effective marketing communications products
- Ability to manage client expectations and prioritize workloads in consultation with supervisors
