The ministry supports Albertans’ health and well-being throughout their lives by protecting public health and promoting wellness and coordinating and delivering safe, person-centered, quality health services.Role Responsibilities Reporting to the Issues Manager, Public Health Delivery, the Operations Manager provides strategic and operational leadership within the Public Health Delivery Division and serves as a key advisor to the Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) and the Assistant Deputy Minister’s Office (ADMO). The position plays a central role in coordinating divisional operations, managing high-profile issues, and ensuring the ADM is supported with timely, accurate, and strategically positioned information. The Operations Manager oversees the coordination of correspondence, briefing materials, action requests, planning activities, and operational processes that support the effective functioning of the ADMO and divisional priorities. Additionally, the incumbent provides strategic advice and guidance to Executive Directors and divisional staff on a broad range of operational and administrative matters. The role leads key functions including human resources, business planning, communications, correspondence management, Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Acts coordination, issues management, budget coordination, and contract and grant administration. The position represents the ADMO and division on committees, project teams, and cross-ministry initiatives while fostering collaborative relationships with stakeholders. Through a systems-based approach, the Operations Manager ensures divisional operations are coordinated and resources are aligned with priorities.Primary responsibilities include:- Managing ADMO operations to ensure efficient administrative systems, coordinated workflows, effective correspondence management, and timely resolution of operational issues.- Providing strategic operational advice and guidance to the ADM, Executive Directors, and divisional staff to support decision-making, planning, and divisional priorities.- Leading divisional functions including human resources, business planning, budget coordination, FOIP administration, communications, and issues management.- Overseeing briefing materials, action requests, correspondence, and stakeholder communications to ensure quality, accuracy, strategic alignment, and timely delivery.- Leading and supporting administrative staff, projects, and continuous improvement initiatives through a systems-focused approach that enhances operational effectiveness.- Ensuring sound contract and grant management practices, effective stewardship of divisional resources, and compliance with ministry and government requirements.The Job Description is provided for further details on this position. APS Competencies Competencies are behaviors that are essential to reach our goals in serving Albertans. Related experience or education may be considered as an equivalency on a one for one basis. Assets:- Knowledge of government acts and regulations, including the Health Information Act, fiscal planning and forecasting cycle/processes, and quality assurance principles.- Experience in a leadership/management role. - Considerable experience in project management.- Experience with researching, editing, and composing correspondence, documents, and reports in a government or comparable environment. Minimum recruitment standards outline the minimum education and experience required for appointment to a job classification.Notes This competition may be used to fill future permanent or temporary vacancies across the Government of Alberta, at equal or lower classification and salary.Hours of Work: Monday to Friday, 36.25 hours per week.The position requires in-office attendance from a downtown Edmonton office.
