POSITION SUMMARY

The Data and Research Analyst collects, analyzes, and interprets data for reporting, monitors KPIs and business metrics for the Experience Division. The role demands strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to turn complex data into actionable insights through research, problem-solving, and cross-department collaboration.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Data Gathering and Preparation

  • Access, extracts, and completes data from various internal systems such as data cubes, spreadsheets, websites, and external sources.
  • Cleans and prepares data by identifying missing values, duplicates, and inconsistencies to ensure data quality and integrity.
  • Maintains and organizes data repositories for easy access and reproducibility.

Reporting and Data Visualization

  • Creates meaningful visualizations, dashboards, and reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Creates recurring and complex ad-hoc reports that track utilization, key performance indicators and business metrics.
  • Develops PowerPoint decks, PDFs, and report templates for internal and external Stakeholders.
  • Develops and prepares productivity reports for the Experience Division departments.
  • Creates and tests web reports for the Experience Division.

Research and Analysis

  • Analyzes report requests to assess their feasibility and requirements.
  • Determines reporting thresholds and privacy limitations to ensure adherence to confidentiality guidelines.
  • Conducts research and reviews on behalf of experience division.
  • Analyzes trends within the insurance industry and reports them to the Manager, Business Solutions.

Communication/Customer Service

  • Responds to internal and external client inquiries relating to data and reporting.
  • Conducts presentations, information sessions and Q&A sessions on subject matter expert knowledge to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Acknowledges and communicates Group & Change information within the reporting team on a regular basis.

Team Collaboration and Support

  • Helps train new team member as part of the onboarding process.
  • Supports internal control functions, identifying process inefficiencies and working with applicable areas to develop solutions.
  • Participates in various projects and collaborates with interdepartmental teams to provide subject matter expert perspectives and analytical support during all phases of organizational projects.
  • Participates in the development of strategic and operational objectives at a departmental level.

Data Governance and Documentation

  • Creates and maintains proper documentation of data sources and methodologies.
  • Supports data quality initiatives by identifying and resolving discrepancies or error and provide suggestions for improvement.
  • Ensures compliance with privacy and data security policies and guidelines (especially when working with sensitive or regulated data).

Professional Development and Learning

  • Stays current with new tools, technologies, research methodologies, best practices, and industry trends.
  • As approved by Manager, Business Solutions, initiate such personal and professional development, as may be required, to remain effective in this position.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Dedicated to the principles of exceptional service; committed to responding to, anticipating and addressing customer needs, for both internal and external customers.
  • Post-secondary degree, diploma or certificate in Data Science, Statistics, Economics, Business Administration or related field.
  • 1-3 year experience working with structured and unstructured datasets
  • Familiarity with project management and visualization tools (e.g. Jira, Power BI)
  • Experience in research methodologies and statistical analysis
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge of the principles and practices of quantitative analysis including cost benefit analysis, statistical analysis and data visualization best practices.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize several key activities on an ongoing basis. Ability to work in an unstructured environment. Requires minimal supervision and direction.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with ability to deal with all levels within the organization in a team environment. Functions well in a team setting.
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills including experience conducting presentations.
  • Thorough knowledge of office productivity tools, including Microsoft 365. Adobe Acrobat, SharePoint, and various database applications.
  • Experience working in the Health Benefits and Insurance industry is an asset.
  • Knowledge of programming languages such as SQL and Python an asset.
