Opportunity:
Westcoast Family Centers Society (‘Westcoast’) is looking for a permanent part-time Clinical Counsellor to work 15hrs/week in Vancouver. This position will report directly to Director of Programs & Clinical Services.
The Clinical Counsellor will need to work in the office 2 days a week into the evening to provide after-school sessions for children. Specific office days are arranged as a team- currently the need is for Mondays and Tuesdays.
The Clinical Counselor will provide short-term counseling for parents/caregivers and children involved with the Ministry of Children and Family Development, who may benefit from clinical counseling as part of service provision. Counselling goals will focus on reducing impact of child protection concerns held by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) that may include family violence, child abuse, addiction, trauma, mental health, and family of origin dynamics.
Interest in providing support to Master’s level interns throughout their placement is important as the internship program is a large component of the department.
Job Responsibilities:

Promote the protection and well-being of children in their home through goals of counseling.
-
Develops and implements therapeutic approaches and interventions of a variety of treatment modalities and techniques that recognize clients' unique characteristics and strengths as well as barriers.

The Clinical Counselor will report to the Director of Programs & Clinical Services.
-
Develop and implement a counselling support and intervention plan in collaboration with the participant and in consultation with MCFD and family preservation worker.
-
Ensure that all records, reports, and documentation pertaining to service delivery are accurate, complete and in compliance with Westcoast’s policies and procedures.
-
Liaise as appropriate with WFC Family Preservation Worker and MCFD for purposes of consultation.
-
Adheres to all ethical principles and standards of practice in the counselling profession as it pertains to informed consent and confidentiality.
-
Conducts other relevant duties as required.
Skills You Bring:
-
Experience working with families who may present multiple service needs related to poverty, addictions, violence, child abuse or neglect, and mental health issues.
-
Understanding of systemic, neurodiverse, and trauma impacts on clinical service delivery.
-
Knowledge and experience in short term counseling using a range of conceptual framework/techniques and approaches, including but not limited to; person centered, solution focused, cognitive behavioral, and child focused approaches.
-
An understanding of integrated case management.
-
Experience working with children in a therapeutic setting.
-
A second language is considered an asset.
Requirements:
-
Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology or a related field.
-
Additional training in child centred or expressive therapies.
-
Two (2) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
-
Membership in a professional association, RCC or equivalent (CCC, RSW)
-
Proficient knowledge of Computer operating systems (MS Word, Excel, Office, Customer Management Systems)
-
Current First Aid Level C or ability to obtain this within the first 3 months of employment.

Current Non-Violent crisis intervention certificate or ability to obtain this within the first 3 months of employment.
-
Pass Criminal Record Check.
