About the role
Job Description:
On behalf of our public sector client, Affinity is looking for a Network Analyst to be Responsible for designing and overseeing the Communications room infrastructure, including space planning, rack layouts, power, cooling, and cabling. Coordinate with architects, engineers, security, and service providers to ensure reliable and secure network integration. Provide technical guidance to trades, prepare CAD drawings and as-built documentation, and ensure compliance with communications infrastructure standards. Support scalable, flexible, and efficient network solutions to meet current and future operational needs.
Responsibilities:
Provide a Communications room space and infrastructure design.
The scope of the detailed design will include:
• Space plan of Communications room
• Rack equipment elevation detail
• Pathways to clinical space from the Communications room
• Communications room physical capacity
• Communications room power
• Communications UPS power
• Communications room heating / cooling / ventilation
o Wall constructions
o Ceiling type
o Floor finish
o Entrance door
• Confirm the location and type of power outlets for ePDU’s, UPS, and convenience outlets
o Power outlets will not appear under GigaBIX wall
• Confirm location of telecommunications and electrical main ground bus bars
• Confirm location of lighting fixtures
• Confirm location and type of Hilti firestop sleeves
• Confirm size and count of conduits to TELUS entrance
• Meet with Security Consultant to coordinate their requirements inside the Communications room
o Coordinate with the Security Consultant on access control and CCTV cabling requirements
o Coordinate placement of security low voltage equipment and cabling termination location within the Communications room
Coordinate with Architect, Mechanical and Electrical Consultants, and with TELUS for WAN (fibre, copper) services
• Architectural – Coordinate with the Architect on the location, size and critical dimensions of Communications rooms and on their construction and wall and floor finishes
• Mechanical – Coordinate with the Mechanical Engineer on the environmental control and preferred cooling solutions and the cooling size for the Communications room
• Electrical – Coordinate with the Electrical Engineer on the electrical services for the Communications rooms (convenience outlets and rack power, UPS and lighting), and the location of the TELUS WAN conduit
• Responsibilities of RCDD are as described above, and in Section 27 01 00, item 1.15 of the latest Communications Infrastructure Standards & Specifications
Participate in site visit and meetings with all associated trades
In order to provide technical guidance and oversight specific to the Communication room design and to ensure alignment with the BCCSS Communications Infrastructure Standards & Specifications. The RCDD will work in conjunction with the Technical Project Manager and the Health Authority Lower Mainland Facilities Maintenance (LMFM) contacts.
• As it relates to the communications infrastructure, provide technical guidance / oversight to the trades with the work of Div. 27 and Div. 26, so that they are not duplicated. Examples:
o Cable tray, equipment racks, ePDU are installed and grounded by Div. 27
o Location of power outlets, ground bus bar and light fixtures are coordinated (space planned) between Div. 26 and Div. 27, and installed by Div. 26
• Work with LMFM to provide guidance and assist with the coordination of installation schedules of sub-trades and when to install the items affecting the communications infrastructure. Examples:
o Installation of light fixtures will follow after cable tray installation, to prevent delays to the project
• Other activities requiring coordination include:
o Wall layout of various low voltage systems
o Floor layout of equipment rack and vertical cable managers
o Ceiling layout of cable tray, and cable dropouts into vertical cable managers
o Proper positioning of lighting layout in relation to ceiling tray, racks and sprinkler heads
Qualifications:
• A level of education, training, and experience equivalent to a university degree or technical diploma in a program such as Communications technology, plus appropriate vendor network certification(s), and a minimum of five (5) years of recent data networking experience
• A minimum of five (5) years recent experience providing Network / Communications room site assessment / design services, for large, complex, multi-site organizations
• Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD) certified
• In-depth experience with enterprise grade Cisco and HP network hardware
• In-depth knowledge / experience with current network standards and industry best practices required to implement reliable, high-density wired and wireless networks
• Good communication and client / vendor interaction skills
• Works effectively under time pressures to meet deadlines
