Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager of Energy and Waste, this position will support the Division in the development,coordination and implementation of energy and waste management programs aimed at reducing corporate andcommunity energy and waste generation and improving waste diversion.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Corporate waste management programs
- Supporting corporate waste audits and waste management programs in City facilities
- Assisting with the development and implementation of corporate waste reduction and diversion initiatives
- Community waste management programs
- Assisting with waste operations activities including providing reception coverage for the sales of blue boxes and green bins and conducting field inspections.
- Provide curbside education to residents to address waste set out issues.
- Assist in delivery of the City’s “GoingUP” program which promotes three-stream waste management programs inmulti-residential buildings.
- Lead the City’s “Clean Up Green Up Weeks” annual event which supports volunteer groups in their efforts to clean up public areas in Richmond Hill.
- Assist in coordinating and delivering corporate energy management programs including:
- Corporate energy conservation capital and operational projects
- Incentive applications, energy audits, measurement and verification
- Bill verification and inputting utility bill data into an Energy Management Software
- Preparing monthly energy & cost reports for the City’s large energy consuming facilities
Key Duties and Responsibilities Cont'd
- Assist with the maintenance program for street, park and parking lot lights.
- Policy research and development
- Knowledge of the principles of energy conservation and solid waste management
- Knowledge of applicable laws and policy direction for solid waste management in Ontario
- Problem solving skills to effectively manage a number of projects and programs concurrently
- Team player with effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups
Education and Experience
- University degree in Environmental Studies, Science, Engineering or related field combined with up to 3 years related experience
- Experience in a municipal environment is considered an asset
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks are a requirement
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- The successful candidate should be an enthusiastic and creative team player
- Effective interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive and professional relationships with a wide range of stakeholder groups
- Demonstrate the City's corporate values
- Comfortable working outside (fieldwork)
- Possess your own CSA certified steel toe safety boots for fieldwork
- Possess a valid Ontario Class “G” driver’s license
- Provide own transportation to conduct field monitoring activities (mileage compensated)
- You will be required to provide proof of vehicle insurance
