NVIT anticipates the need for one part-time steward/dishwasher at the Merritt campus and invites applications from qualified individuals. This term position will commence November 2025, and end April 2026.
Job Summary:
Primary responsibilities will be outlined daily cleaning duties at NVIT’s campus café and lab kitchen. Exposure to heat, humidity, steam, odors, refrigerator temperatures and wet floors. Duties are performed while standing or walking, occasionally exerts physical effort in moving or lifting of supplies and or equipment. Attendance will require morning start time until early afternoon, weekdays.
Duties include:

Required to work independently or as a team member with one or more dishwashers.

Cleans and maintains the dishwasher(s) to retain good working condition.

Maintains a clean and sanitized work area during their shift.
-
Practices and records daily temperature readings in logbook.
-
Reports and deviances to equipment as soon as possible to campus maintenance.
-
Assist in the cleanliness of the kitchen floor daily.
-
Assist in the removal of kitchen garbage, recyclables and cardboard daily
-
Cleans commercial equipment as assigned by the cafeteria coordinator or Chef instructor.

Routinely performs daily cleaning duties as assigned.

You will be part of a team actively engaged in contributing to and accomplishing the vision, mission, and goals of NVIT and in supporting the aspirations and needs of our learners.

You will promote a positive work atmosphere by interacting and communicating in a professional manner that demonstrates mutual respect with students and colleagues.

Other related duties as assigned but not limited to.

Minimum 1-year related experience considered an asset.

A valid Food Safe certificate considered an asset.

Professional positive demeanour.

Demonstrates good communication, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.

Builds and maintains a positive/collaborative work environment between the Culinary Arts department, Eagles Perk Café Staff, Students, Staff and Faculty.

Must self-identify as an Indigenous person to be eligible for this ISET placement and funding
-
Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with quickly changing work priorities.

Good organizational skills with attention to detail.

Knowledge of all kitchen positions to complete on the job training.

Must have a demonstrated ability to work with Indigenous people and an understanding of Indigenous ways of knowing, being and doing.
