In Canada, CNOOC International has oil sands assets in Long Lake, located in northern Alberta just south of Fort McMurray, which is a SAGD and partial Upgrader operation with production capacity of 85,000 barrels of bitumen a day. We also have interest in several other oil sands projects, including Hangingstone, operated by Greenfire Resources Operating Corporation and Syncrude’s oil sands mining upgrading facility. In addition to our oil sands business, we have shale gas land in Northeast British Columbia, a power station in Balzac, Alberta, and interest in a wind farm in southern Alberta. Calgary is our regional corporate office for all North America.
This position is an 12 months contractor role; the successful candidate will be onboarded through a third party contracting agency.
Your Background
- Bachelor's in finance, business or engineering related.
- Minimum 5-10 years in oil and gas industry with previous experiences in Project Control or Cost Control.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and SAP.
- Certification Preferred:
- PMP
- AACE
- CCP (AACI Certification)
Your Role with Our Team
Project Control
- Is accountable for preparation and for the accuracy and quality the overall project controls reporting on a project.
- Coordinating the overall project cost analysis activities.
- Understands and uses Cost Control System &/or SAP. Checking documentation to ensure correct cost coding.
- Provides liaison and guidance to project management on matters relating to project control.
- Identifies and prepares estimates for change orders, trends and extra work orders.
- Has an understanding of construction and has had construction related experience.
- Will be asked to take on site cost reporting assignments.
- Identifies future potential costs and make a judgment regarding any impact.
- Assist in the preparation of detailed engineering, procurement and construction schedules for proposals and projects in progress, updates and maintains weekly work plans and schedules.
- Coordinating Project Closeout Report and makes sure that project controls estimates, cost, progress and schedule data is being gathered in a proper format to allow for a concise project controls closeout report.
Financial – Carries out duties to maximize value and minimize waste and risk
- Carries out duties in such a manner as to maximize value/efficiency and minimize cost/waste.
- Ensures work processes, procedures and sound engineering principles are performed in a cost-effective manner.
- Preparation of budgets/PAF/PRF for capital and operating expenditures.
- Routine reporting Incurred/Rolling Forecast for the projects.
- Responsible for verification of service entry / invoices.
SCM – Facilitate purchasing and contracting process for project
- Acting as the focal point for project to work with SCM department on facilitating the Purchase Requisition and Contract Requisition process
Collaboration – Demonstrates behaviors in line with CNOOC Intl’s values. Readily accepts responsibility and accountability
- Communicates effectively and consistently with CI ECC.
- Readily responds to requests for input of project control and technical expertise.
- Responsible for routine reporting and ad-hoc reporting/information updates requests timely.
Decision Making Responsibilities
- Will make judgment decisions regarding the analysis of data obtained from a variety of sources.
- Identifies adverse cost conditions from collected data and makes recommendations for improvements.
Supervision Received
- Works under general supervision.
- Assignments are reviewed periodically to ensure conformity to project and administrative objectives.
Supervision Exercised
- Assists in the training of junior staff by providing guidance in work methods and procedures.
- Provides assistance in the resolution of problems.
Performs other duties, completes additional tasks and supports ad hoc projects as required.
