Work environment Parks Canada is a federal government agency responsible for the protection and presentation of Canada’s outstanding natural and cultural resources through a system of national parks, national marine conservation areas and national historic sites in all regions of Canada.

Intent of the process Anticipatory: This process is intended to fill anticipated vacancy(ies).This process may be used to create a list of qualified candidates to staff similar positions with various tenures within the Cape Breton Field Unit.

ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE:Experience in managing human and financial resources.Experience in providing leadership, guidance and direction to work crews.Experience in managing schedules and reviewing work.Experience in the general repair and maintenance of facilities, structures, grounds, roads and highways, or other assets such as water/sewer infrastructure.Experience in the operation and maintenance of tools and equipment.

ESSENTIAL KNOWLEDGE:Knowledge of highway maintenance methods, standards, guidelines and equipment.Knowledge of snow removal methods, standards, and best practices.

ESSENTIAL ABILITIES:Ability to plan, organize and implement maintenance programs.Ability to assess and evaluate work procedures and environments to identify potential hazardsAbility to advise supervisors and employees about safe work practices and safety standards and regulations.

Parks Canada is mandated to "protect and present nationally significant examples of Canada's natural and cultural heritage, and foster public understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment in ways that ensure their ecological and commemorative integrity for present and future generations". Parks Canada manages 48 National Parks, three National Marine Conservation Areas, 171 National Historic Sites, one National Urban Park, and one National Landmark.
