Assistant Safety Manager
About the role
Assistant Safety Manager
The Surespan Group of Companies has been delivering heavy civil infrastructure across Western Canada since 1977. From major bridge installations and crane lifts to pipeline access, industrial construction, and remote infrastructure projects, we work on some of the most unique and challenging projects in the industry. We're looking for an Assistant Safety Manager who wants to build a career—not just find another job. This is an opportunity to work alongside an experienced Corporate Health & Safety team, learning every aspect of modern construction safety. You'll gain exposure to industry-leading clients, major infrastructure projects, incident investigations, regulatory compliance, client audits, onboarding, training, and project mobilization while developing into a future safety leader. This role is ideal for someone with some construction or safety experience who is ready for the next step.
What You'll Do
Support field teams and project supervisors across active construction projects. Assist with site inspections, hazard assessments, and incident investigations. Coordinate worker onboarding, orientations, and safety training. Help maintain safety programs, documentation, and client compliance requirements. Build relationships with crews, supervisors, and project teams to promote a strong safety culture. Travel to projects throughout British Columbia and Alberta as required.
Who We're Looking For
We're less interested in finding someone who has already done everything. We're more interested in finding someone who wants to learn.
The right candidate is someone who
Communicates confidently with people at every level of the organization. Is curious, coachable, and willing to ask questions. Takes ownership and follows through. Is organized and dependable. Wants to build a long-term career in construction safety. Enjoys both office and field work. Some safety or construction experience is an asset, but attitude, communication, and a willingness to learn are what will set the successful candidate apart.
Why Surespan? This isn't a role where you'll spend your career checking boxes. You'll work with experienced professionals on complex civil construction, heavy lifting, bridge construction, and industrial projects while supporting some of North America's most recognized resource and infrastructure clients. If you're looking for a place where you'll be challenged, supported, and given the opportunity to grow into a leadership role, we'd like to hear from you.
Some experience in construction, industrial operations, or occupational health & safety is preferred. Recent graduates or early-career safety professionals with a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn are encouraged to apply. Exceptional communications ability
