About the role
Description: The Therapy Assistant is responsible for assisting in the delivery of therapeutic rehabilitation programs. The Therapy Assistant participates in assessment related activities as well as the planning and development of client programs which includes leading individual or group treatment and educational interventions. This position is covered by the terms and conditions of the HSAA Paramedical Professional/Technical Collective Agreement.

Required Qualifications:
Required Qualifications: A directly related diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution is required.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Previous experience working in a rehabilitation setting preferred. Must have experience working with elderly or disabled individuals. Must be able to follow instructions and know restrictions and limitations of their contact with patient treatment and education. Excellent spoken and written communication skills. Must be comfortable working with disabled and uncommunicative adults. Must demonstrate patience and flexibility. Must be able to concentrate over extended periods of time. Ability to diplomatically address patient/family concerns. Evidence of continuous learning.
Preferred Qualifications:
Previous Recreation experience in a Continuing Care setting. Is required to spend considerable time standing, walking and in close supportive contact with patients. Is required to bend, pull, lift, perform variable movements, change position (assume awkward positions), transfer and/or lift adults and transport equipment. Experience in hospital and community settings an asset.
