Whaler Industrial Contracting operates as a general and prime contractor specializing in mechanical and structural construction. We are currently looking for Industrial Journeyperson and Apprentice Pipefitters to join our team in Calgary, Alberta! The Journeyperson Pipefitter is responsible for the safe and efficient installation, maintenance, and repair of piping systems on industrial projects. This role ensures all work meets quality standards, project specifications, and safety requirements. Working as part of a collaborative team, the Journeyperson Pipefitter contributes to project success through technical expertise, precision workmanship, and mentorship of apprentices to uphold Trotter & Morton’s commitment to excellence in the field.

Key Responsibilities
-
Read and interpret drawings, blueprints and specifications to determine layout requirements
-
Make detailed sketches for pipe and equipment fabrication and installation
-
Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, assemble and install metal, plastic and fiberglass pipes, valves and fittings
-
Cut openings for pie in walls, floors and ceilings using hand or power tools or machines
-
Select type and size of pipe required
-
Measure, cut, thread and bend pipe to required shape using hand and power tools
-
Weld, braze, cement, solder and thread joints to join pipes and fabricate sections of piping system
-
Install supports, valves, piping and control systems
-
Test system for leaks using testing equipment

Clean and maintain pipe units, fittings and flush system
-
Remove and replace worn components and reactivate system
-
Mentor and train apprentices (if applicable)

Perform other duties as required
Skills and Abilities
- Strong work ethic and positive team attitude
- Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work overtime or shift work as required
- Result orientated
Knowledge and Qualifications
- Journeyperson Pipefitter Certificate
- Industrial construction experience
- Knowledge of current applicable Code
- Superior knowledge of applicable hand tools & power tools and scissor lifts
- Installation, maintenance, and repair skills.
- Ability to lead others in troubleshooting and emergency repairs.
- Ability to develop and implement planned maintenance programs.
- Ability to read, understand, and follows safety procedures
