The Rehabilitation Assistant is a critical role within our communities as it impacts the lives of residents through the strong leadership and motivation of Sienna team members.

As a Rehabilitation Assistant your typical day will impact the following ways:

  • Follow rehabilitation and mobilization program of residents as directed by the treating PT/OT.
  • Assists assigned clients with established rehabilitative activities such as mobility and strengthening exercises, walking programs and activities of daily living as directed
  • Demonstrate to residents the use of prescribed treatments / adaptive devices such as braces, wheelchairs and walkers and modified eating utensils and personal care items as directed.
  • Reports observations of residents' behaviour and progress to Therapist /Nurse; communicates concerns and / or changes to resident condition.
  • To maintain an attendance roster for statistical purposes. Stats are to be kept on a daily basis and made available to the consultant PT/OT and Director of Residential Programs.
  • Sets up and organizes furnishings and equipment for related activities as directed; cleans and maintains equipment and reports malfunctioning equipment to appropriate staff.
  • Maintains an inventory of equipment, devices and materials. To maintain an inventory of equipment, tools and supplies and report malfunctioning equipment and supply needs to the Recreation Therapist.
  • To provide input into planning and evaluating rehabilitation programs by reporting observations and resident feedback to the Director of Resident Programs, OT and PT.
  • May be involved in administrative and program support
  • To participate in in-services, staff development programs and serve on committees as needed.
  • To demonstrate knowledge of fire/emergency procedures and policies of the home; participate in fire and emergency drills.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Must haves:

  • Completion of Rehabilitation Assistant diploma from recognized school or graduate from a bachelor or master's program in physiotherapy or occupational therapy.
  • Experience in Residential Care or similar rehab setting.
  • All applicants must successfully pass the prescribed Criminal Records Check. Applicable to British Columbia applicants.

Wage Leveling rate of pay $30.96 per hour until such time that wage leveling ends, then the pay rate will reflect the collective agreement pay rates.
