Your role CBC/Radio-Canada Winnipeg is seeking a Senior Designer for its Graphics Centre of Excellence. The Centre serves all production centres in Western Canada and regularly produces graphic content for other teams elsewhere in Canada.
Please note this posting is for one permanent part-time position (two days a week). What You Do Perform specialized tasks in design by creating distinctive visual elements within the scope and time constraints of a program or project. Work is generally performed according to accepted CBC/Radio-Canada or industry standards, but there is latitude for independent action, judgment and initiative. Duties are usually performed under high pressure and tight deadlines within established program formats.
There may be requirements to achieve results in a self-administered environment on projects where you plan, organize and carry out the work in a manner that meets the project requirements.
Key Tasks
- Generate ideas to illustrate editorial content and increase visual interest, and create original material reflecting those ideas.
- Modify, adapt and improvise on concepts provided by others.
- Conceive, create and execute still and animated images, from brief animation to full background animation.
- Plan, organize and direct photographic shoots.
- Design logos, typographic and page layouts, signage, pictograms, labelling and packaging for program, print and multimedia.
- Consult with others involved throughout the design and production processes to ensure continuity of visual unity.
- Contribute ideas and make recommendations to overcome problems or achieve desired results. Experiment and devise new methods or approaches.
- Perform all or part of the function or duties of an equivalent or lower classification.
As assigned or required, may perform any or all of the following tasks:
- Design simple sets.
- Assist in the training of others.
Qualifications We’re looking for a candidate with the following: Objective Criteria
- University or college graduate with a degree/diploma in graphic design or visual arts, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Knowledgeable and sensitive about broadcast environments.
- Proficiency with many of the latest graphic design and web software applications, including Adobe Creative Suite and especially After Effects.
- Demonstrated knowledge of effective graphic design in a variety of media, which may include broadcast design graphics, print pre-press work, digital formats, exhibition design, prop layout and 2D/3D motion design.
- Knowledge of and respect for corporate branding principles and adapting brand requirements to digital media – essential.
- Good writing and communication skills.
- Very good knowledge of English.
Subjective Criteria
- Discretion, self-motivation, diplomacy and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team under pressure.
- Availability and willingness to work shifts, evenings and weekends.
Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing.
