The Diploma in Digital Media and Design is an employment-focused, multidisciplinary program that bridges the gap between technology and practical innovation. Students gain the digital fluency and creativity needed to thrive in web and UI design positions. They enrich and expand their knowledge framework to pursue further study or evolve in the new global economy
Job Description:
The Digital Media & Design program is seeking a temporary instructor for DGMD 1415 Coding for Designers I: HTML/CSS in the Spring of 2026 semester. This is a 1 section course (1/4 of full time, which is 1 hour a week of Lecture, 1 hour of Seminar/Tutorial, 2 hours of lab supervision, plus other duties related to the college. The position involves introducing design students to the programing languages used in the creation of websites and other basic interactive applications.
Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Describe HTML document structure & semantics
- Develop responsive, structured and semantic web content
- Produce economical and validated code
- Build complex layouts with fluid CSS grids
- Integrate media into designs, using code-based methods, when possible, to conserve bandwidth
- Choose appropriate size and formats for graphics
- Use media queries to make designs adapt to device properties and capabilities
- Use progressive enhancement, designing for modern devices, while ensuring successful fallback to less capable devices and browsers
The topics covered in this course are:
- Basic HTML, HTML Semantics and validation
- Images, paths, and anatomy of URL
- CSS Typography, Web fonts, units, colour
- Mobile-first methodology, Responsive Design
- CSS Grid 1: columns, rows, units of measure
- CSS Grid 2: align and justify properties
- CSS Position and layers
- Backgrounds, colours, gradients, borders, corners, ...
- Tables
- Forms
- Media: Video, Sound, Media Accessibility
Required Qualifications:

Master’s Degree in a directly related discipline is preferred or equivalency:
- A bachelor’s degree with an appropriate major, plus five years of full-time employment in an industry directly related to the course;
- A credential from a recognized institution in an appropriate discipline, and eight years full-time employment in an are directly related to the program instructional areas;
- Ten years full-time employment in an area directly related to the program instructional area

Excellent oral and written communications skills

Experience using a Mac operating system

Professional level knowledge of pertinent software

Teaching experience preferred

Portfolio presentation of current, relevant work and teaching portfolio (optional)

Demonstrable knowledge of current trends in web design

Preference will be given to candidates who have:
- 3–5 years of teaching experience
- Teaching experience with college-level graphic design and web design courses
- 3–5 years of experience in the field of graphic and web design

Understanding of the design principles and the design process

Knowledge of the latest UX/UI standards
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain currency and strive for excellence in instructional practices and pedagogy
- Maintain currency in relevant subject areas
- Ensure effective use of available class time and supervise lab/studio time
- Maintain appropriate office hours to ensure availability for student consultation
- Must attend department meetings and assist with department duties
- Maintain collegial working relationships, actively contributing to the department and College
