The Planning, Development & Real Estate department is looking for a temporary full-time Clerk III to join their team for approximately one (1) year. You will perform moderately complex clerical tasks such as checking building permit applications to ensure they contain all required information and that drawings contain adequate detail for proper examination of plans; explaining regulations related to same; calculating permit fees from schedules, receiving and balancing fees, summarizing deposits of same, accepting applications and issuing permits. In addition, you will also assist in obtaining missing or unclear plan application information; liaise with applicants to explain the need for additional information; and manage/expedite permit application queue.

You will have completed courses toward a Diploma of Technology in Building or related discipline, plus have considerable experience with municipal permit administration or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of related bylaws, acts, and regulations; a strong competency in reading plans, surveys, and related material are required. You also have strong computer skills (Word, Excel, Outlook), keyboarding skills at a minimum net speed of 40 wpm as well as excellent communication and customer service skills.

Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete standardized tests or exercises to demonstrate their applicable skills and knowledge.

Salary:
$31.97 to $37.58 per hour
(Pay Grade 17 – January 2024 rates)

Hours of Work:
The City of North Vancouver currently works on a compressed work schedule of 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, with one scheduled day off (Monday or Friday) approximately each three-week scheduling cycle.
