About the role

The Role This is a busy unit providing a wide range of diagnostic, therapeutic and acute upper and lower Endoscopic procedures for in-patients and out-patients in collaboration with the specialties of Gastroenterology, Colorectal Surgery, Upper GI surgery.

This post will offer the post holder an opportunity to work within a high skilled and motivated team delivering high quality care to their patients. The post holder will be involved in maintaining high standards of patient care using audit, risk management and evidence based practice.

Some knowledge of Endoscopy, General Surgery and Gastroenterology is desirable for this role although training will be given. It is essential that you are currently a Registered Nurse with the NMC and that you have relevant post registration experience.

You need to have a live NMC UK pin in order to be considered for this post.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

  • Location based in Queen Elizabeth University hospital
  • Part-time positions
  • The shift pattern will need to meet the needs of the service
  • Please note the salary is Pro Rata for part time hours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Practice in accordance with Professional Codes of Practice i.e. Nursing & Midwifery Council, Health Professionals Council.
  • Act autonomously and is wholly accountable for his/her clinical practice taking opportunities to sustain and improve knowledge and professional competence.
  • Utilise specialist clinical skills to carry out endoscopy care for patients in a safe and effective manner.
  • Expected to delegate appropriately to junior/support staff showing a full understanding of staff abilities before delegation of duties from patient care plan.
  • Utilising the specialist endoscopy care plans the Postholder will develop programmes of care by assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating specialist patient care to be carried out by themselves and other members of staff.
  • When following specialist programmes of care developed by multidisciplinary team the Postholder must use initiative, knowledge and current best practice to adjust care to suit patients needs.
  • Plan and prepare a safe, clean environment in the clinical area to ensure a high standard of patient care is delivered, by utilising personnel, clinical experience and organisational skills.

  • Registered Nurse

AND/OR

  • Educated to Diploma/ Degree level or working towards

Desirable

  • A keen interest in learning and developing Specialist knowledge and skills in Endoscopy both clinical and technical (instrumentation/equipment).
  • Must undertake and complete successfully both Generic and Specific endoscopy competencies including signed assessments and action plans.
  • Show an interest in research, audit and evidence based practice to be aware of how best practice and standards are being applied within own area.
  • Must have good organisational and planning skills.
  • Gain knowledge of administration processes required for day to day operation of own area such as pharmacy indents, endoscopy monitoring forms, audit forms etc. This will be gained from on the job experience and study day attendance to comply with department protocols and evaluate and improve patient care.
