Director, Finance
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile Director, Finance to join our team. This role is ideal for a proactive finance leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys taking on diverse responsibilities. Reporting to the CFO, the Director, Finance will play a key role across a broad range of financial functions. The ideal candidate brings a strong analytical mindset, a hands-on approach, and a collaborative spirit to help drive financial excellence and support strategic decision-making across the organization.
Responsibilities
- Manage end to end process for monthly variable compensation for external advisors, including data collection, complex calculations, review and payment approvals.
- Ensure advisor relationships are supported through accurate, timely commission payments and that programs are aligned with strategic business goals.
- Investigate and resolve any commission-related issues or disputes by exercising sound judgement and analytical skills to assess complex scenarios ensuring fair, accurate and timely resolutions
- Support the advisor onboarding process to ensure a seamless integration of new external advisors including co-ordination of required documentation
- Development of KPI’s and reporting to provide visibility and insight into commission trends and support proactive forecasting
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, providing insight and recommendations to senior management
- Collaborate with other business units to support financial accuracy and reporting by developing a clear understanding of departmental operations, future plans and cost drivers, enabling more accurate forecasting, expense allocation and financial planning across the organization.
- Ensure company’s compliance with all applicable tax laws, audit standards, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain current knowledge of Canadian federal and provincial tax legislation as it applies to insurance premium billing
- Support annual external audits by coordinating the preparation and provision of accurate and comprehensive financial documentation, schedules and supporting evidence as required.
- Support the continuous development and improvement of accounting policies and procedures by regularly reviewing and updating to reflect changes in accounting standards, regulatory requirements and business needs. Ensure consistency and compliance across the organization.
- Monitor established internal controls, regularly assessing effectiveness and identifying potential gaps or vulnerabilities, recommending enhancements and ensuring compliance
- Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement within the Finance team
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentorship and professional development opportunities to help team members grow their skills
- Support team growth by providing feedback that is clear, future-focused and aligned with business objectives
Qualifications
- CPA designation required
- 7+ years progressive financial management and leadership experience
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, and adapt quickly to changing business needs
- Experience developing and implementing internal controls, accounting policies and compliance processes with proven ability to interpret and apply accounting standards
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and translate it into actionable business insights
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel required, experience with Power BI preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and senior leadership
- Collaborative and team focused leader with experience coaching and mentoring
- High level of integrity, discretion and professionalism in handling confidential data
