Position Summary
The Calgary Stampede – BMO Centre is seeking a Sales Manager with a proven track record in sales in the Convention, Meeting and Major Event Industry. Reporting to the Director, BMO Business Development; this position will proactively seek out new business in order to confirm major conventions, meetings, trade and consumer shows, and special events for the BMO Centre. The Sales Manager is responsible for researching, identifying, and targeting potential clients and marketing of the BMO Centre and services for year round business in order to achieve sales goals.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:
- Achieve defined annual contracted revenue targets and maintain accurate sales forecasting and pipeline reporting.
- Research, identify and target potential clients within assigned market segments to increase facility utilization, revenues and profitability.
- Proactively generate new business through direct sales efforts, industry outreach, strategic prospecting, and relationship development.
- Lead the full sales cycle including qualification, proposal development, site inspections, presentations, negotiation and contract execution.
- Develop comprehensive event proposals and compelling sales presentations aligned with client objectives and venue capabilities.
- Negotiate detailed facility contracts ensuring accuracy, revenue optimization and alignment with organizational policies.
- Maintain awareness of industry trends, competitive positioning, pricing strategies and booking patterns within assigned markets.
- Develop and maintain affiliations with industry associations, strategic partners and peer facilities to strengthen destination competitiveness.
- Work closely with Tourism Calgary, Travel Alberta, Calgary Economic Development, Destination Canada and the Calgary Hotel Association to support citywide bid strategies and selling synergies.
- Collaborate with Event Management, Operations, Food & Beverage and other internal departments to ensure seamless transition from sale to execution and maximize client satisfaction.
- Maintain accurate client records and opportunity tracking within the CRM system.
- Represent the BMO Centre at industry events, trade shows and client meetings, including travel as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:
- Provide excellent guest service and consistently demonstrate professionalism.
- Minimum 5 years of related sales experience.
- Exceptional communication and time management skills with the ability to prioritize.
- Must demonstrate social awareness and communicate with tact and diplomacy.
- Ability to develop, motivate and work towards a common goal and vision.
- Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
- Basic accounting skills.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
- A working knowledge of Momentus system is an asset.
