About the role

TRADES WORKER WITHOUT TICKET - TEMPORARY There is a position available for a Trades Worker Without Ticket in the Transportation Department. Applications must be completed online and will be accepted until noon, February 12, 2026.

Reporting to the department Supervisor(s) and Working Lead, this position is responsible for assisting and working closely with trades personnel in the applicable trade.

Hours of Work: (8) hours per day

Duties to Commence: As soon as possible after closing until June 26, 2026

Work Year Base: Twelve (12) months per year

Commencing Salary: $29.39 - $30.23/hr. depending on years of experience

Duties To Be Assigned Include

  • Carries out duties as assigned by the Working Lead.
  • Performs job duties under the supervision of the Working Lead and certified trades personnel.
  • Assists and works closely with certified trades personnel.
  • Maintains and ensures tools, equipment and assigned vehicles are in good working order (for example, pre-trip vehicle inspections).
  • Performs preventative maintenance and makes repairs that do not require a trade ticket.
  • Follows proper safety rules and standards by ensuring the worksite is safe and secure, that equipment and vehicles are operated according to set standards.
  • Ensure the safe handling of hazardous materials (WHMIS) and the safe use and operation of equipment and hand tools.
  • Organizes work day under the direction of the supervisor(s) by priority and availability.
  • Informs the Supervisor(s) of vandalized equipment or property.
  • Keeps a clean and well maintained workplace at all times.
  • Fills out work orders as required.
  • During performance of job duties, employee may be exposed to unfavourable conditions.
  • Performs other departmental related duties as directed.

Qualifications And Attributes

  • Grade 12 or equivalency
  • 2-3 years' relevant experience (within the last 5 years) required
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize with constant interruptions is essential
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Class 5 Driver's Licence
  • Acceptable Driver’s Abstract
  • Knowledge of computerized diagnostic equipment would be an asset
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to be an integral part of a team
  • Must be well organized
  • Able to work independently and set priorities
  • WHMIS Certificate and other online safety training provided by the District to be completed within the probationary period
  • Other applicable safety training and/or certifications as provided by the District to be completed as needed
  • Must be able to pass a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Records Search conducted by the District prior to starting employment
