About the role

The Legal Services Department plays a critical role in our organization by providing comprehensive legal support across various domains. Comprising Corporate Legal, Transaction Legal, and Real Estate Legal divisions, this department ensures legal compliance, safeguards the organization's interests, and facilitates smooth project delivery.

Position Overview As part of the Real Estate Management & Litigation Team, you will provide comprehensive commercial real estate due diligence, conveyancing, commercial real estate acquisition and disposition transactional support, risk management advice and support for the Government’s General Real Estate Portfolio, Forfeited Corporate Properties and Development initiatives.

What You Will Do

  • Provide legal advice and support on complex legal matters in the areas of commercial real estate, land assembly, planning, real property development and related transactions to Infrastructure Ontario executives and business units to support decision making.
  • Provide advice and interpretation on the application of the MOI Act, OILC Act and relevant regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Review file documents, consider external advice, develop viable strategies and recommendations and obtain required approvals.
  • Ensure corporate compliance with current legislation and Infrastructure Ontario policies and procedures, and contribute to strategy development.
  • Provide legal support to internal stakeholders.
  • Provide litigation support to business units.

Who We're Looking For

  • Demonstrated experience practicing law in commercial real estate, particularly with a focus on real property dispositions, acquisitions, planning and development related to the construction of master-planned communities.
  • Demonstrated experience conducting title reviews and preparing title reports.
  • University degree in Law (LLB or JD).
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Knowledge of commercial real estate, land development, property and land management.
  • Proven strategic and innovative thinking and demonstrated experience, drafting, negotiating, and executing various land use, land assembly, commercial agreements, complex commercial real estate transactions and related development matters.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation relevant to the business of Infrastructure Ontario.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation and relationship-building skills with the ability to communicate complex legal issues in a clear manner to non-legal audiences.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Ability to understand business issues quickly, exercise good judgment in providing timely and practical legal advice and work effectively in a team-based environment.

Level of Position: Legal (L1) Hiring Range - $125,000 to $169,100 Candidates with up to 6 years of experience as a licensed lawyer in Ontario will be considered for a Legal Counsel (L1) position. Level of Position: Legal (L2) Hiring Range - $142,000 to $192,100 Candidates with more than 6 years of experience as a licensed lawyer in Ontario will be considered for a Senior Legal Counsel (L2) position. Exact compensation may vary based on skills, knowledge and experience. This posting will close on January 9, 2026 at 11:59pm. Interviews will occur on a rolling basis until the role is filled.
