Your Opportunity:
The Perioperative Registered Nurse (RN), utilizes the nursing process, critical thinking and problem-solving skills in the provision of care to pediatric patients undergoing surgical procedures from admission to the surgical suite, until the completion of phase I recovery. The primary focus of this role will be in the operating room with cross-training in the post-anesthesia care unit (PACU) such that the nurse can provide support to the primary Registered Nurse. The perioperative Registered Nurse maintains and continuously updates a specialized skill set in addition to the generalist skills of the acute care registered nurse to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care in the surgical suite and post-anesthesia care unit. The perioperative nurse works to full scope of practice as defined by the Health Professions Act and maintains the standards of the Operating Room Nurses of Canada (ORNAC), the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA) and Accreditation Canada. The perioperative RN is able to effectively assume a charge role.

You will play a leadership role in supporting an integrated and holistic approach to patient care, health promotion and maintenance. You will provide safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.
PLEASE NOTE: Provisional Permit Holders shall be paid $39.58 /hour - $54.16/hour. Upon being entered into the register of Registered Nurses, the rate of pay shall be adjusted to the rate of pay applicable to a Registered Nurse in accordance with AHS/UNA Article 25.02(b)(i) or (ii) as applicable.

Required Qualifications:
Completion of an accredited nursing education program.
Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CRNA).
Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
If you have not practiced as a Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years, completion of the following free courses is required: CRNA Medication Management - Chapters 1 - 4 (https://connect.nurses.ab.ca/home/%2Flearning-and-development%2Flearning-modules%2F) and the NextGenU Health Assessment Resources Certification (https://courses.nextgenu.org/course/view.php?id=271#section-0)
Additional Required Qualifications:
Previous operating room experience including scrub and circulating functions in a Surgical Suite setting is required. Peri-operative course is required or a minimum of 2 years’ current experience in the scrub/ circulatory role within a Surgical suite. Current experience is defined as working in a OR setting within the past 2 years. The ability to cope and effectively perform in stressful and / or emergency situations is essential. The incumbent must possess leadership and decision making ability and be able to exercise sound judgment and use initiative. Good interpersonal and public relations skills as well as good communication skills, oral and written are essential. Good organization and coordination skills are required. The position is very physically demanding. Must be able to life / pull / push more than 25 lbs. There is a lot of above shoulder requirement for prepping and positioning of patients. Responsible to maintain registration with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA) throughout the duration of employment
Completion of an accredited nursing education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College and Association of Registered Nurses of Alberta (CARNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Preferred Qualifications:
Recent peri-operative nursing experience with General Surgery, Orthopedics and OB / GYN is an asset.
