Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada

  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering

  • Registered or eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with Engineers Geoscientists Manitoba (EGM)

  • Must be able to travel to work sites within the province by ground and/or air transportation

  • Must require overnight stays away from home

  • While at outdoor work sites, exposure to road construction equipment, roadway traffic, asphalt plant area, noise, dust, hand/power tools, moving equipment, slip-trip-fall, carrying/twisting, insects, and vegetation & sharp objects

Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Must have appropriate scope-of-practice in Transportation Engineering with extensive experience in the geometric design of highways, urban streets, intersections and interchanges, intersection and roadway capacity analysis, traffic impact studies, developing highway geometric design standards, analysis of traffic and collision data, and managing roadway design projects (including project budgets and contract disputes)

  • Extensive experience with highway planning, traffic engineering and highway construction activities, access management principles, and traffic and collision analysis methodologies

  • Demonstrated leadership and considerable experience in supervising staff

  • Highly developed written communication skills

  • Highly developed verbal and interpersonal communication skills to establish effective working relationships with management, support staff, and external contacts

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, decision-making, and project management skills

  • Excellent leadership and strategic thinking skills to identify issues that need to be resolved, be able to develop options to resolve/mitigate issues and be able to make recommendations and prepare information for consideration by appropriate decision makers

  • Excellent organization skills

Desired:

  • Experience with financial management as it relates to large and complex programs/projects
  • Ability to learn and work with appropriate industry software tools and technology to successfully complete assignments/projects
  • Working knowledge of Manitoba Occupational Safety and Health regulations and requirements

Duties:

The Manager of Highway Geometric Design, Standards and Practices is a technical expert, leader and manager responsible for the development of geometric design standards, geometric design advice, quality assurance reviews of all highway geometric designs and the development of specialized highway geometric designs. The position is responsible for managing, providing sound leadership, planning, coordination, and financial accountability for the Branch.
