About the role

PROGRAM: Community Living BC Supported Houses - Multiple Programs

LOCATION: Kamloops, BC

STATUS: Casual

COMPENSATION: Starting from $25.95 (Grid 10 as per collective agreement)

HOURS of WORK:
Causal employees provide their availability each month, following the guidelines below:

  • Minimum 12 days of availability to be provided each month
  • 4 weekdays-4weekends-4 any days in the month

Casual shifts are booked in advance to cover vacation and other planned absences of regular staff. There are also same-day call-outs the casual employees are expected to respond to, in case of unexpected absences.

ABOUT THE JOB:
Casual Residence Worker assists adults with diverse abilities in a supported home environment. They promote quality of life for all residents by encouraging independence, maximizing their well-being, and enhancing social participation. This position requires shift work and a high level of personal and palliative care.

**SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, and ABILITIES:**Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:

  • Build healthy, trusting relationships with all involved parties, including the youth, colleagues, supervisors, community professionals, care teams, and family members
  • Assist clients safely in and out of bed, bath via carrying, lifting, transferring, pushing, pulling, bending, and using lifts and other health equipment appropriately
  • Provide personal care and hygiene
  • Provide medication administration as per agency policy and procedures
  • Do household tasks: housekeeping, laundry, meal preparation, basic repairs
  • Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours, crisis situations, and aggression
  • Work independently and as an effective team member
  • Communicate effectively with all involved parties through verbal and written channels
  • Provide clear and accurate written documentation
  • Resolve conflict and maintain positive working relationships

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

  • Community Support Worker, Resident Care Aid, or Home Support Worker Certificate
  • One (1) year of recent and related experience
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Experience working with adults with diverse abilities is an asset

REQUIREMENTS

  • This position requires shift work and a high level of personal care
  • A valid Class 5 Driver’s license or equivalent is required. Class 4 DL is an asset.
  • Safe driving record
  • Access to a reliable vehicle
  • Tuberculosis testing showing free from TB - test provided by the employer
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Emergency First Aid with CPR-C, Mandt, SafeTalk, Safe Food Handling, Medication Management, CLBC Privacy, Anti-Bullying, and Harassment.
  • adequate physical abilities to support individuals in wheelchairs and walkers.
  • This job requires union membership.
  • A satisfactory criminal record check is required - related costs are reimbursed when employment starts.
