Job Summary: Supervise and lead a team of operation team leaders and employees to ensure the safety, housekeeping, quality and productivity meets all company standards. Ensure material is received, graded, processed, stocked and shipped in an efficient manner meeting company quality standards. Ensure a clean, organized and safe work space is maintained.

Duties:

  • Operations Leadership:
  • Supervising, coordinating, and overseeing daily activities of team leaders and employees engaged in the Insulated Division including employees operating single or multi-function metal processing machinery and equipment
  • Establishing methods to meet work schedules while managing employee productivity and ensuring housekeeping standards are maintained
  • Ensuring materials are received, inspected, and graded in an efficient and accurate manner
  • Making requisitions for materials and supplies
  • Ensuring materials are properly packaged for shipment while meeting all quality standards and all shipments are prepared and meet consumer requirements
  • Resolving work problems and recommending work measures to improve productivity and product quality
  • Continuously considering all “Loss Control” aspects of receiving, weighing, grading, sorting/stocking material and eliminating waste
  • Assisting employees with tasks when required
  • Safety:
  • Training employees in safety procedures and ensuring employees comply with all regulatory, legislative guidelines and company health and safety policies and procedures
  • Ensuring work area is inspected at beginning of shift for any hazards, safety concerns, breach of safety practices and/or know contravention of the OHSA or regulations is reported and report filled out
  • Being aware of and up to date on any legislation that is relevant to the operations department and ensuring employees are updated
  • Completing regular observations to identify and correct any safety issues
  • Ensuring employees only operate equipment after being certified through Operator Ready training, in a safe and responsible manner
  • Ensuring employees use prescribed personnel protective equipment
  • Assisting with weekly safety talk with employees
  • Ensuring visitors are aware of safety and complying with the visitor safety policy
  • Investigating all accidents or incidents in conjunction with the Operations/General Manager and ensuring that they are documented and reported within 24 hours of occurrence
  • Ensuring applicable findings from investigation are communicated back to staff
  • Employee Leadership:
  • Maintaining “The CMI Way” culture
  • Assisting with recommending personnel actions such as hirings and promotions
  • Training staff in job duties and contributing to developing and maintaining a positive work environment by engaging and motivating employees
  • Working in conjunction with the Production Managers/Operations Manager/General Manager to provide and/or ensure effective training and development of employees
  • Assisting Operations/General Manager in building and managing employee goals in order to improve employee performance and facilitate personal growth
  • Facilitating and ensuring shift meetings are held with employees
  • Taking appropriate corrective action where required to improve cost and efficiency
  • Ensuring employees follow company policies, procedures and current work instructions
  • Ensuring employees have proper supplies to work with, including uniforms, tools, equipment and PPE
  • Following through on commitments made to management and employees in a timely manner and with a sense of urgency
  • Managing trial employee processes
  • Assisting with progressive discipline and employee performance reviews
  • Environmental:
  • Ensuring all tasks are completed by employees in an environmentally responsible manner and in compliance with all regulatory, legislative guidelines and company policies and procedures
  • Ensuring all material is inspected for potential environmental contaminates, and ensuring material is handled accordingly
  • Ensuring environmental inspections are completed daily
  • Maintenance:
  • Ensuring employees complete an inspection report at beginning of day on equipment (forklift, skid steer, cranes etc.) and reporting any safety concerns to Operations Manager immediately
  • Ensuring daily preventative maintenance is performed on all equipment according to company policy and procedures
  • Reporting any problems/damage that occur while employees are operating equipment to Operations Manager immediately. Ensuring that no one operates equipment that is not working properly
  • Liaising with maintenance to make sure all equipment is in safe working order
  • Ensuring equipment is clean at end of shift and properly stored
  • Continuous Improvement:
  • Constantly challenging the current methods and techniques in a controlled manner that will provide for a superior, more efficient and improved result
  • Continually developing strategies and tactics that optimize operational efficiencies
  • Supporting the initiatives of all employees in their ability to improve on a regular basis
  • Customer Service:
  • Ensuring internal and external customers have exceptional experience
  • Resolving escalated customer concerns, where needed, forwarding to Operations or General Manager
  • Administration:
  • Completing reports as needed, i.e. safety violation, accident, environmental
  • Ensuring all documentation required as per company policies and procedures are completed

Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school is required
  • 2 – 3 years of experience in metal manufacturing or metal processing environment is required
  • Knowledge of WHMIS, spill response procedures, and safe handling of industrial and metal materials.
  • Understanding of environmental, quality, and loss control policies within a metal processing environment.
  • Training in emergency response procedures, including fire drills and evacuation protocols.
  • Previous experience in a leadership role is required
  • Experience operating material handling equipment
  • Ability to delegate tasks, lead and motivate a team of employees, resolve conflict among employees
  • Basic computer skills with MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to perform arithmetic computations required to calculate and estimate weight/amount of material
  • Ability to perform in all types of weather
  • Strong English communications skills (written and verbal)
