JOB SUMMARY

We are currently seeking a Packing Line Lead to operate automated packaging equipment. The Packing Line Lead reports directly to the Production Manager. This individual will maintain optimal productivity and efficiency. The successful candidate must be able to adjust and troubleshoot equipment; report equipment malfunctions to maintenance staff and clean packaging equipment as directed.  

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure equipment is working efficiently.
  • Adjust and calibrate automated grading equipment.
  • Make appropriate changes to labels and date codes.
  • Direct forklift operators to ensure sufficient raw product is being used.
  • Direct packaging operators to ensure the required product is being packaged.
  • Coordinate the flow of goods at each stage of packing – beginning, work in progress, and finished goods.
  • Responsible for documentation of traceability and production records.
  • Assist with the training and onboarding of new hires.
  • Inspect packaged product for proper weight.
  • Implement Lockout/Tagout as required.
  • Leads, coaches, mentors, and trains team members.
  • Verify proper packaging materials used and ensure proper product is being placed within the packaging.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or policy violations to the production manager.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certifications

  • Minimum 1-2 years’ experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Previous experience with produce packaging is an asset.    
  • Trade qualification in a relevant field such as electrical or mechanical engineering is an asset. 
  • Forklift license is an asset. 
  • Experience leading a team.

Skills

  • Strong people management and leadership skills.
  • Ability to motivate people. 
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written). 
  • Good attention to detail. 
  • Strong work ethic with a hands-on approach. 
  • Interpersonal skills. Line lead must be able to speak with fellow employees, department managers, and senior management.
  • Time Management: Line leads face order deadlines, machine change overs, and must manage their time accordingly.
  • Excellent inventory management and record keeping skills. 
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with a mechanical aptitude. E.g., Line lead must be able to quickly establish a situation and be decisive in solving it, such as identifying defects in the line operation and making minor repairs.

Abilities

  • Ability to troubleshoot and make minor equipment repairs. 
  • Must be able to follow food safety policies and procedures.   
  • Ability to follow safety policies and procedures including Lockout /Tagout and proper PPE usage. 
  • Must be flexible. May be required to work overtime or on Saturdays depending on production needs.

Physical Requirements

  • Continuous use of both hands; including grasping, pulling, and pushing.    
  • Must be able to lift to 50 lbs. 
  • Combination of standing, walking, bending.

Schedule

  • Monday to Friday
  • Weekends as needed
  • Expected hours: 40 – 50 per week
  • During the packing plant's peak season (Sept to Jan), there are planned blackout periods, no vacation can be booked during these periods.  

Ability to commute/relocate

  • Bradford West Gwillimbury, ON L3Z 3M5: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)
