The Role
This role will work on our Fairview Campus and provide technical assistance and support to students, faculty and staff in the Veterinary Technology Department.
Specific duties may include:
- Travel to and from locations for animal acquisition.
- Organize intake examinations of animals and following-ups.
- Make files, medicate and vaccinate animals.
- Oversee treatment of animals and husbandry duties.
- Pre-operative care (fasting, bloodwork, bathing animal, set-up of surgery room and prep room), pre-operative monitoring, sedation and induction of animal, intravenous catheter placed, intravenous fluids set up and administered, assist in surgeries (if needed), monitoring vitals, maintaining and monitoring anesthetic and post-operative recovery.
- Nursing duties that exceeds the expertise of students
- Performs a large range of tasks, such as nursing, diagnostic procedures, to assist veterinarians in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease in animals.
- Ensure proper paperwork is filled out before sending animals back to rescue society.
- Purchasing various products and equipment, managing within a budget, procurement card reconciliation, processing of invoices.
- Keeping stock and inventory of 500+ veterinary products and equipment for utilization in program.
- Keep track of product expiration dates, lot numbers and control drugs.
- Daily, weekly, monthly and yearly quality control, maintenance, and repair of varies diagnostic and nursing/medical equipment.
- Inputting and maintaining inventory into veterinary software.
- In contact with various veterinary product representatives.
- Set- up and assist instructors and students in various courses.
- Involvement in program promotional activities.
- Other duties as required.

Job Requirements
JOB REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have Graduated from a Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) accredited Veterinary Technology Program and have at least 1-year experience. Necessary skills and attributes to be successful in this role include:
- Knowledge and experience with both small and large animals
- Knowledge and experience with anesthetic
- Successful passing of Veterinary Technician National Examination
- Registered or be able to register with the ABVMA
- Knowledge of various equipment
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills
- Strong decision making, critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build strong relationships across the organization
