Do you have a genuine interest in building partnerships and collaborating with Indigenous communities in Ontario?

In this position, you'll have an opportunity to lead, coordinate and facilitate relationships and partnerships with Indigenous communities to support the government's transportation goals and commitments in relation to initiatives and programs while advancing related community economic development goals.

This position will require frequent travel over long distances and to remote locations, often independently.

##About the job

In this position, you will:

• Advise senior management and support project staff on Indigenous relations and transportation policies.
• Provide front-line service to Indigenous communities for consultation and partnerships.
• Plan and coordinate briefing materials, reports, and issues management for Indigenous matters.
• Act as liaison between ministry, branch, and Indigenous communities.
• Lead strategic planning, project management, negotiation, and facilitation for initiatives and programs.
• Support communities in pursuing procurement opportunities with MTO.

##What you bring to the team

###Knowledge of Indigenous affairs:

You have:

• knowledge of economic, legal, and political issues in Indigenous relations, including history, culture, governance, protocols, agreements, services, legislation, and case law.
• experience leading complex projects and liaising with Indigenous communities to fulfill consultation duties.
• understanding of strategic directions for Indigenous affairs, economic development, corporate policy, and relationship management.
• knowledge of transportation and land use services, research techniques, and transportation economic principles related to Indigenous communities.

###Analytical and problem-solving skills:

You have:

• ability to develop and implement strategies to engage Indigenous communities and act as liaison for transportation projects.
• strong problem-solving skills to resolve complex, political issues.
• ability to interpret Indigenous constitutional law and evaluate impacts on policy and programs.
• strong analytical skills to identify gaps in Indigenous economic development, conduct scans, lead economic modeling, and perform cost-benefit and risk analyses.

###Interpersonal and relationship management skills:

You utilize:

• facilitation, negotiation, and consensus-building skills to resolve issues and act as liaison.
• relationship management skills to maintain partnerships and lead forums or site visits.
• strong interpersonal skills to represent Indigenous relations on committees and task forces.

###Communication skills:

You can:

• lead consultations, attend conferences, provide training, and recommend on Indigenous rights and transportation projects.
• respond to issues, prepare briefing notes, management plans, and presentations using standard software.

###Project management skills:

You have:

• knowledge of project management, program evaluation, statistical methods, forecasting, risk management, and economic modeling.
