As the Business and Local Economy Analyst you will be responsible for researching, preparing and maintaining, data vital to the development and implementation of business-friendly initiatives. In addition, you will be required to identify, develop and help implement technical approaches to aid in reducing the cost of doing business in Calgary. For example, you will identify and collaborate with other City departments, groups representing the business customer and other partners to address emerging issues. Primary duties will include:
- Lead and support BLE team members and internal partners on content management, developing and maintaining standards for use, and design methods to support BLE work plan deliverables.
- Monitor changing needs and trends by engaging in research and analysis to gain insight into the outlook and attitude of our business community.
- Serve as a point-of-contact for issues including escalation matters between owners, entrepreneurs and city departmental staff.
- Collaborate with services across the organization to remove red tape and improve processes to enable businesses to open and operate.
- Organizing the content and distribution of the Business Beat newsletter.
Qualifications
The successful applicant must possess one of the following combinations of education and experience:
- A completed 2 year diploma in planning, architecture, civil engineering or in a related field with at least 5 years of related experience OR;
- A degree in planning, commerce, communications, or a related field with at least 3 years of related experience.
- Knowledge of The City of Calgary Land Use Bylaw and Licensing Bylaw is an asset.
- Working knowledge of the planning and development application review process and operations is an asset.
- Experience working on high profile, politically sensitive initiatives/projects would be considered an asset.
- Proven organization, prioritization and time management skills and the ability to manage partner relationships.

Workstyle
- This position may be eligible to work from home for at least part of the time as one of several flexible work options available to City employees. These arrangements depend on the operational requirements of the role, employee suitability, and are subject to change based on operational needs and corporate direction.

**Days of Work:**This position works a 5-day work week with 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.
