The opportunity:

Are you passionate about education and making meaningful connections? The University of Manitoba is seeking dynamic and engaging Student Recruitment Officers to represent the university across Manitoba, Canada, and international markets. In this role, you'll deliver compelling presentations at high schools and online. You'll attend career fairs, and community events, while also leading on-campus tours and promotional activities. Your mission: inspire future students and guide them from curious applicants to proud Bisons.

This position offers the opportunity to travel extensively, share the university’s story through diverse mediums, and support prospective students throughout their admissions journey. The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's degree required, preferably related to communications, marketing, education, or a related field.
  • A recent University of Manitoba graduate preferred.
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • One year directly related experience required.
  • Experience in public relations, marketing preferred.
  • Extensive public speaking experience preferred.
  • Experience working with students in the post-secondary or high-school system preferred.
  • Experience as a student or staff member of the University of Manitoba preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of university admission process and regulations preferred.
  • Extensive and detailed knowledge of the provincial (Manitoba) high school system, and knowledge of national and international high school curriculums preferred.
  • Customer service experience required.
  • Experience working with online presentation platforms such as Zoom webinar and Teams required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others in cooperative ventures required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to communicate in an articulate, knowledgeable, and diplomatic manner required.
  • Intermediate skills in the current versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
  • Ability to relate to high school students in an effective manner is required.
  • Must be a dynamic and charismatic public speaker with significant related experience and the ability to present an upbeat, positive and energetic attitude.
  • Ability to learn quickly and retain new knowledge, be proactive in learning and to further common goals of the department is required.
  • Excellent problem solving, reasoning and decision-making skills.
  • Must be tactful and diplomatic, and able to deal with individuals in stressful or emotional situations.
  • Must demonstrate inter-cultural competence, the ability to function effectively across cultures, to think and act appropriately, and to communicate and work with people from different cultural backgrounds - at home or abroad.
  • Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team is essential.
  • Must be able to travel domestically and/or internationally for trips in duration of a few days, up to 4 weeks at a time, multiple times a year.
  • Must hold a valid passport and must maintain required immunizations to enable entry into certain countries/markets.
  • A good understanding of the University of Manitoba degree programs, entrance requirements and selection procedures preferred.
  • Fluency in additional languages would be considered an asset.
  • A valid driver's license and clean driving record as well as access to a reliable vehicle is required.
  • Must be physically capable of performing duties as assigned, including driving and standing for lengthy periods and lifting display units and boxes weighing up to 15 kg.
  • Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
  • Evening and weekend work will occasionally be required.
