The opportunity:
The University of Manitoba is looking for a Payroll Assistant. This position is required to perform data entry of payroll. General duties processing payroll exceptions, corrections and additions forms, time sheets, voluntary deductions and handling enquiries from both internal and external customers. This position provides assistance to the Administrative Assistant on an as needed basis.
The qualifications and experience we’re looking for:
- Completion in a recognized payroll certification program (i.e. PCP or PLP from National Payroll Institute) or Completion in programs related to payroll administration from regulated institutions is required.
- Three years of directly related payroll experience on a major computerized payroll system as well as familiarity with a client server based system is required
- Knowledge and experience with aspects of general payroll practices are required
- Comprehensive knowledge of government legislated deductions for Income Tax, Personal Tax credits, Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, Union Contracts, and University Benefit Plans is an asset
- VIP software knowledge is an asset
- An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Must be organized
- Good written and oral communication skills are required
- Must be skilled in the use of a personal computer and desktop software Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Ability to work accurately at a quick pace and cope with a demanding workload are required
- Must have the ability to process large numbers of documents with speed, accuracy and attention to detail in order to meet strict deadlines
- Demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service is required
- Ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment is required
- Ability to effectively assist staff regarding; overpayments, taxation problems, general payroll errors, etc are required.
- Ability to solve problems is required
- Ability to work professionally within a team environment is required
- Ability to manage and meet multiple deadlines required
- Knowledge of Microsoft 365 applications is an asset. (e.g. SharePoint, OneNote, Planner, etc.)
- Satisfactory work record, including satisfactory attendance and punctuality, is required.
